Ducks have arrived
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:55:29 AM »
The 2 mallard ducks have arrived back again this year.  I have been training them to accept food, and have been suiccesssful to the extent (after only a few days) that they come to me when I approach the pond (instead of flying off like last year) and have even started to follow me around the pond in expectation.  Cool :)
You might recall that last year we had little ducklings (you can view the video on my website) http://www.btinternet.com/~fujiyamagarden/video1.html) and I think that I will try to get Wonderwoman to feed them whilst I take a little video as an update for this year
I will let you know if I succeed ....

SAM, haven't seen you for so long. How are things? Have you expanded your grounds/gardens any more. Is the pub still standing? Fill us in. Get some pictures of the ducks too. There are so many new people here who won't know you, you'd better fill them in on your amazing setting.

Sweet!  I think I liked the rabbits even better than the ducklings.  Your rabbits are pretty - the ones we have here are dull brown with cotton tails.  I like the dark brown ones over on your side of the pond.

Say, what's a "leveret?"

We had a pair of mallards wanting to nest in/near our ponds last year.....I shooed them away daily for a couple days, then they hung out in the nieghbors yard in a big puddle for a couple days before leaving....I didn't need the mess of ducks in the yard.......now if I had a larger pond or natural pond it would have been fun to have them for company.

Hi julles
These 'rabbits' are in fact hares ...the hare is a different animal entirely (although similar)...  you can google 'hare' and 'leveret' and get more info.  A leveret is a baby hare, just as a 'bunny' is a baby rabbit :).  Stick with American Ponders and learn, learn learn  ;D
Hi Esther ... McCoubrey's Pub is still there.  Big moves this year to add a Lapa to the area in place of the Pergola which had begun to fall down :)
Work is due to begin in April so I will update you with pics then
There are a number of changes afoot :)

I swear, your property is more like a real garden than a lot of professional gardens. Is the thatched one what you are building? I bet it is. That will be cool. Don't they get bugs a lot?
