All of a sudden everything is going wrong.
« on: February 28, 2009, 12:37:07 PM »
The latest.  Not my week!
I will remove the vines that cover the patio and cover with 90% shade fabric.  I love the stuff.
Lots of dried material there now, a fire hazard!
I will only let the trumpet vine run along the fascia.

Couldn't you just bolt alongside another stringer to hold that up and paint it white as well. Much less work and would last another 10 years or so...

Much easier than removing that great vine that I remember so well.

Jerry,

Sean has a great idea!  With respect to  statistical probability, at your age, anything that is expected to last 10 years can be viewed as "infinite", since the likelyhood of you having to deal with it agin prior to checking out is nil!!!
(One of the "advantages" of old age....)

I falied to say it was termites.  So the wood is rotten, That beam will cost 163.00.
I am not doing this alone, no way.
I don't know what redwood would cost, but I will treat this with a wood preservartive.
As Johns said.  I will be 110 by the time it rots.
Thanks guys!

As my mammy said, "Anything worth doing is worth doing right."  Better to deal with it now than at some later time when you are trying to sell the house.  Besides, that's the general area where I sit at you pond parties....  :o ;D

TERMITES >:(- OH no!!! We have struggled with them for years. The house was treated for them when we moved in 38 years ago. I could smell Chlordane every time it rained and I was outside along the house after that for years. We had the one large pole barn slab treated before building. We then discovered the inground pool was leaking and when a professional put on dive tanks to investigate, he found thousands of tiny holes. UHHUH, they were coming up through the sand on the bottom of the pool through the liner after water. We took out the liner and I had some Chlordane, now illegal for professionals to use but legal at that time for me to use. So we treated the floor of the pool area with that and hired professionals to pressure treat through holes in the sidewalks around the pool with whatever is legal now. Then a few years later, we hired a bug place to place the Centricon bait stations. Cost big bucks but they never found any termites. No refund either. LOL Over the years I have had them attack railroad ties which were treated with creosote, corn stalks, potatoes, and rhubarb.

So Jerry, if termites are attacking your arbor, I'd think they may be somewhere/everywhere else. Do you have sand there? We have total sand and termites love sand. The can move very easily in it. Get it checked out.

Thank you Mike W.  All is good.  Won't have the 6 x12 timber 'til tuesday. Special order.
90% shade fabric will work well.  The dead limbs of the trumpet vine will be gone. No fire hazard! The patio will stay cleaner.
I may need a dumpster.
Thanks for your generous offer.

Oh Sunbeam I know, but the week was brutal.
I returned and unopened phone to Radio Shack a few days ago and they want to give me a credit. Their policy is a full refund.  The corporate offices told me they are full of it and just wanted a commission.
They now say they can't give me a credit till the check clears.  I said, very loud, in a store full of costomes..."I can't use a credit because Id never buy here again! I stopped the check!

Next day a friend, a retired opera singer looked at a few of my DVDs. (student films) he basically said I was old and fat and the films were amateurish (Students) I pointed out that the cast and crew applauded me.
He said if i wanted to talk like a gangster I should go see Brando as "The Godfather."
I said I did as the director asked and they were pleased.
I do know better but it still stung.

Then the bruhaha that occured here at AP.
Earlier my Pond Vac arrived broken!  Some week.  The good news is that Webb's Water Gardens took care of it at once!  A new one arrived today.

I have a film at USC tomorrow and a well paying commercial on Thursday.  Things are looking up!

Robin Williams does the best imitations of any actor I know. :)
And his movies are a lot more fun to watch than Brando's - at least his later works. "Apocalypse Now" was painful...

Everyone is a critic... so you can't take it so seriously.
:)

Sounds like everything got handled, noone died, and life moves on. :)

Besides where does an opera singer try to come across as a film critic any more than one of us. We all have seen famous movie stars and have wondered what was so great about "that" performance. So remember like mother said about beauty----IT's All in the eye of the beholder. Did you tell your critic that you didn't exactly like their opera performances either!! SO THERE!!! @O@

Talk about things going wrong. One of our tenants called and said the drain was backing up. We called a "roto rooter" guy and $185 later said it was open. Two days later the same tenant says it is backed up again. New guy, same company comes out and says he pulled out some baby wipes farther down the pipe, gave us a discount, $100. I just played my phone messages. Uhhuh same tenant.

Well, Jerry, I hate to try to upstage you, but I think I have you beat.  It's been a bad weekend for me emotionally, preceded by a lousy week at work, a pretty bad couple of months health-wise, and finally coming to the realization that I have wasted a year of my life caring about a woman who finds it easy to lie to me, and then blame me because I found out the truth.  :-\

I'm broke and can't afford to pay attention, so you might have to lend me an ear.

No matter how bad you might feel right now, the truth is your friend. Believe in the truth and let the lies go. Have faith knowing that now the truth is here you can go on and forget about the past. I know its hard but if the past was a lie then forget about it and start anew. Don't go looking for new just start again and it will find you. Chin up and look forward to the future starting today.

I am all better Dad. Did a flick today and the Director had me calm my lines down a bit.  I really was trying too hard.  Thanks for your uplifting thoughts.  I have a gig thursday too.  I know guys who never get work, even freebies, so I must be doing something right.

Michael, sure it hurts, but perhaps a blessing that you didn't get more deeply involved.

Unfortunately, I was very deeply involved.  It's a long story, and I don't want to air dirty laundry, but we had some very sincere plans.  I am glad I found out the truth, so don't get me wrong, and I know that I have to (this time) do what's best for me.  Doesn't make it hurt any less, though...

thanks....

thanks, I was actually sad last night, but now I am glad it's over.  It was very taxing on me and I just can't stand liars.  She is a very troubled soul with a shady past that she has a hard time getting away from.  I chose to look the other way with the hopes that she would change her ways...  but she is stuck in denial and she is comfortable with the lies until confronted.

by the way...sorry to hijack your thread, Jerry.

How about this photo?  Be glad you are not in one of those chairs.

Oh no Michael. Sad it had to end that way. But you did have some good times along the way. I think that it is hard to find someone at your age who doesn't haul along a basket load of "history". I guess it just depends on what that history is as to whether they will be good for you or not. You are lucky though you found out before there were babies or even a longer commitment to have to dissolve.

Don't give up on finding someone though. There's lots of nice truthful ladies out there I bet.

As for our septic story, the company just called to say they are on the way for the third time. Pete says this time they will have to use a camera. I'm just praying that something terrible isn't wrong with the tank or drainfield. I think it was just above 0 this morning and the ground is plenty frozen as we has a snow thaw and the surface is bare so the soil freezes easily. One of the reasons I'm so concerned is that there is no more room for another drainfield in the back yard. If they have to put one above in the front yard, then they'll have to put in a lift pump and $$$$$$$$$$$$.
