Water make up
« on: April 21, 2009, 04:28:00 PM »
Hi everyone, I am new here and built my first pond last year about this time. I am looking for a water level switch that automatically turns on a pump to top up my pond if the level gets low. I get my water from a creek not far from the pond and just use a small pump to transfer the water. In the summer with the heat and waterfalls running I do lose some water after a few days. I would love to be able to mount the switch in my skimmer if it was small enough. Does anyone know of such a switch?

A sump pump switch would work for what you want. I had one and may still have it somewhere. You connect a float to it and can rig it to either come on when the water level is high or low. I have a valve that does the same thing.
Happy ponding,

There has to be a commercial product that works just like the float in your toilet tank. I'm a do it yourself type of person so I'd probably rig up a flow switch with a float to a small pump, but I'm sure someone here knows the pre made product that you need.

Like PondmaninFL said, a sump pump float switch.  You need one that's set up so you can take the float off and turn it around.  Or you could get something like this:

Note that the switch in that link needs a relay to run a pump.

I found that link on e-bay last night and think I will go that route. I am using a float from a cattle tank for now off my well, which will give me the time to order the other

Thanks everyone
