Amazing what pond myths we can bust when we are patient with a camera by the pond.

I assume he did. I saw him take it in his mouth.  No guarantees. I will watch to see if a lump goes down his throat next time. {nono}

Sometimes I catch a turtle sitting on the sundeck poke his or her head into the water to grab food bits and swallow it while its head is still submerged.  Or they also grab food on the sundeck and go diving before swallowing.   :D

They can grab food while out of the water, but, they have to have water to swallow it.
Here's a good example for you.  :o

Who said turtles are slow.  ;D
I've seen pictures taken from that video and there is a Red Eared slider in there taking a few bites.

He also went underwater to drown the bird.  Hard to swallow a bird - in OR out of water - if it's flappin' and fightin'!

Last summer as I was walking toward my truck,I saw a turtle crawling underneath it. I hurried to get a near by bucket and ran right back, the darn thing was already under and out the other side!! I managed to get it in my bucket and took it out to the pond :) I think It was the same one I saw a few days ago laying around the side of the pond!
