Very nice!

Don't need to subscribe to the paper. It rains in Phoenix in January/Feb and July/August, very few times outside of those months. Arizona native cactus can take a lot more drought than cactus native to other parts of the world where it may rain more often.

My Son was here for Mom's Day.  This is his cactus.
He is in Laguna beach, your neighbor.  He did take an Opuntia home.

Opuntia, I looked it up and I have seen many around growing up above backyard fences.  They're beautiful when in bloom.  It will be a great addition in your sons garden too.

These gardens are cool.  I've been collecting cacti and succulents indoors, and I'm now toying with the idea of some cold-hardy ones for my garden.  It'd be neat to see the double-takes of the neighbors walking by.   lol

They are not only for you guys in tropical areas, they work in more temperate zones too!  I hate watering containers, so I am making more utilizing succulents.  And cacti have some of the prettiest flowers around:

The pot came from Lowe's; I love that place!  These photos are from last year, but the cactus in the last photo (and on the left in the pot) has already had a dozen or so blooms by mid May-in fact, it was blooming before some of my tulips here in zone 7!  And this little pot will have blooms on at least one of the plants ALL SUMMER!  I have more visitors comment on these than anything else in my landscape; it is amazing.  Granted, they are more unusual here than in TX or Socal, but they should not be!
