How big is your pond that you have game fish in it?  Do you catch them and release, or eat them or just have them for fun?  Hmmmmmm I didn't think fish ate toads, just frogs.

Welcome to the forum!

Your story reminded me of a similar problem in my pond a few years ago.  I went out one morning to see our albino catfish swimming around with one of our biggest goldfish sticking out of its mouth.  I spent quite a while throwing rocks and chasing it with a net trying to get it to spit it out.  We netted the fish and relocated it.

About your name "Flyhawk".  Is there a story behind that?

thanks for the posts!
our pond is about 14 feet by 20 feet with a 4 foot deep section.
It actually was a toad, i saw him lunge ate it. no disrespect, but i do know the difference between toads and frogs ::) besides, we havent seen any frogs around the pond for ages :-\
flyhawk-not much of a story- when i was young i loved red tailed hawks-still do!
they are my birth animal!
so when i was young, while i was playing a fighter jet game on the computer, i came up with the name "flyhawk" :)

Welcome, FlyHawk.

Well, I hate to loose a toad.  But, after the thread about the bull frogs eating birds and other innocent creatures, I say it's fair game for something to eat a frog / toad now and then.

Very nice looking pond  O0  It's so lush looking. I wish I could grow all those beautiful plants but I am in a colder zone than you I'm thinking.

I have some bluegill in one of my ponds i call the 'cat pond' - they are so fun to feed. i have gotten the cats trained to eat from my hand, but the blue gill i gotta throw in worms that sink. though, i think they are hybrids of sorts... but really pretty none the less.

aww too fun lol
the bluegill are spawning here and from the shore of the lakes around here you can see their spawning beds and how they hunker over them none stop... its fun to throw a line in there with a jig and wiggling it around their bed, watch them pick it up and move it outside of the area lol.

When you say prairie plants I am wondering if they like a lot of heat. We live here in the PNW where it is pretty wet and not very warm here except for a couple months outta the year. If you tell me their names I can look them up on the net and see what they need to grow well. I would be much appreciative and yes tell me what you did please.  (8:-)
Thanks

but i do have some that are native to your region that i have
little bluestem

side oats grama

nodding onion

western shooting star

some types of NATIVE( :)) geraniums

harebell

stiff stem flax

wild bergamot

maximilian sunflower gets tall!

jerusalem artichoke(its not actually an artichoke)

Spotted joe pye weed(its not a weed :))

new england aster(one of the best!)

now if you research these, make sure you type in exactly the name i put in
there are closely related members to thses that wouldnt do so good in your climate

Thanks for all the info and I will check out those plants and I will make sure I put in the right name. I've never heard of some of them but soon I will eh? I bet there will be pics on the net when I find them. I know I don't want any that will shoot seeds and spread where I don't want them so I wonder if this could be a problem? I bought some kind of brown type of ornamental grass once from Lowes and I'm still pulling it out of the veggie garden  >:( Live and learn

i havent bought something from lowes
plant wise for over 3 years!
most grasses they sell are very aggresive
most of theses prairie plants are very
passive and wont spread much
except for jeruselum artichoke
and maximilian sunflower O0
