Busted! Caught our noisy toads on the porch tonight!
« on: May 07, 2009, 07:50:50 PM »
We've had some very noisy toads inhabiting our container ponds the past couple summers. We really love them (neighbors don't). Anyway, after coming home from a movie tonight, we saw the orchestra in action. Check these out! Does anyone know what kind of toads they are?

They look like our fowler's toads. They are very noisy  {:-P;; Our neighbor doesn't like them either so I gave her earplugs.  :)

I do not know the name either but they look like mine. This is the time of year around here for open window sleeping. My neighbors have always said they love the sound of the falls and it is peaceful to sleep by. I have noticed that the toad/ frog population has increased so much these last 2 weeks that my neighbors have shut their windows. Delima...Maybe I can cart off 2 or 3 a night but I have a feeling new ones will just replace them. I sleep with my windows open now and actually have replaced the needed constant fan noise with the frogs. If I get to many more I might close my windows too though.

Great pictures, that looks just like my cousin Alfred. He married out of the fold, ran off with a toad.

Same kind of toads here. It is only for a while then the singing will stop. If neighbors don't like it, it is to bad it is nature at its finest.

They sang for us for most of the summer last year, and also left us lots of tadpoles. I don't want them to leave anytime soon.

Looks like the same ole toads we have. They've been having 3 somes in the containers up front this year. OTS of tad poles.  O0  And for the first time this year we have Spring Peepers in the back ponds. Talk about noisy, they put the toads to shame. I just LOVE"EM all   o(:-)

They are very cute. They are wild animals, not like you imported them to harass the neighbors. They should be celebrating. Toads eat a lot of bugs.

Great shots of your noise boxes!  It seems our frogs and toads are still waiting for warmer weather.  Not much action here....yet!

These came back at about the beginning of May. I recall that they just disappeared at the end of the summer last year, maybe in August. They sure are fun to watch and listen to!

I love hearing them. o(:-)

I have noticed on nights that I am not sleeping well, the toads and "buggy things" make the most noise early in the night, then there is a period of silence............then the birds. ;D

Where do you live?  Those look a lot like the Gulf Coast Toads that we have all over the Houston area.  Yes, they are loud.

You can go on line to find samples of frog / toad calls, and can identify by their calls, as well as their physical appearance.
