They look like walkins to me but the gal at wal mart said they are comets.
I am not sure what a comet looks like (except for Haley's)
So do small comets look like walkins, or is the sales girl wrong?

Comets are just plain old gold fish with a large vertical tail. I have some and are quite good looking. The tail tells it all.

then Steve these guys are walkins as i'd hoped. They look like miniture versions of my one big walkin. That's why I bought them.
She was a nice girl at Wal-Mart, but i suspect doesn't know much.

Yes Joyce that is just how my mature wakin looks. The new ones are just like him, but smaller. Gee at 2.88 i can't go wrong.

If you didn't quarantine the fish I'd keep my eyes open for ick or anything else because often times the fish at such stores are less than healthy. The sales people at these stores would likely see a fish with an ick infestation and tell the customer,
"Oh look. Here's a pretty one with some nice white spots..."

Betting you have some nice fantails not wakins. Wal-mart wouldn't get wakins to sell for $2.99.
Wakin SHOULD have a penduncle sparkle..like a ginrin scale right at the base of the tail. Most breeders cull out the ones that don't. Kind of a signature thing to a wakin.
I've got bunches of wakins and who knows how many wakin babies are in my 300 gallon q-tank. Have to find out next week

I been busy! we are doing 2 farmer's markets on the coast side of the state each week. Between picking and packing and processing (pet food part) it's been pretty crazy.
I got a bunch of baby wakins. Hope to find out just how many this week..in my spare time
