I laid flagstone, but... Pictures added !
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:51:02 AM »
I didn't do too bad, but I hear I need to use acid to clean off the "fog" on the stones (left by excess mortar)  What acid? and how?
Photos soon

The guys I work with use a masonry cleaner in small areas.  Really strong and smelly.  Be sure to read the directions and follow everything to a T.  Very hard on skin/hands.  Muriatic acid is for the pros.  Many accidents can happen with this acid.  Be even more careful using this product.

Hope that helps.  Be careful!

first is the old, then the new.  Not sure I am better off.
I am becaude the stone is cantilevered and the liner no longer shows.  Also rid of the cumbersome barricade at the edg.  It was uiding the wrinlled liner.
The stone was a freebie from Craig's List.

Jerry - that looks GREAT!  I love flagstone around a pond.

Please don't use those chemicals around the pond.  Foggy stone is preferable to dead fish and plants.

WOW!  Looks fabulous!  You do great work, Jerry!  Looks like you took out the blush color stone and replaced it with the more attractive flagstone.  Definitely an improvement!   O0 O0 O0

Like Julles said, be careful using those chemical cleaners near the pond!  Motorized brush sounds better, but keep stuff from flying into pond too.

That looks great Jerry.
BTW how much do you think postage would be for you to send me your old stones?   {:-P;;

Seems you always do a great job in your projects.

Reddad, the photos hide many flaws.  The old stuff was 2.79 each at HD

I was told a sealer would give it a nice luster.

Looks good Jerry.  I had a crack in my concrete patio similar to what you have and I found some gray caulking (located with all their other caulking tubes) at Home Depot that is made for filling cracks in concrete.  It filled the crack nicely and dried hard.

Good job Jerry. Did you use the sealer? I wouldn't if I were you as it will have to be redone after a while. It is like finish is on wood. You are lucky to be able to do that type of application where you live. I have wanted to put a brick covering over my cement porches that are 40-50 years old but am told that when water gets under them and freezes, I'll have a mess.

Flagstone is so forgiving!  I added a bit of mortar to a few low spots.
Thanks all.
