Really nice , Joyce! I didn't know about variegated Daylillies. What is the bloom like? Are there many cultivars?

The daylily will have a double orange bloom.

It's called a Variegated Kwanzo Daylily.
I have several fans of the daylily, most not quite as variegated.
I separated the plant last year and kept this one very variegated one to propagate.
If anyone wants one of the not so variegated fans, please PM me.

I can take pix of them too. :)

Once they start growing more fans, do what I did, and separate the really variegated ones apart and grow the not so variegated ones.
This is called Hemerocallis kwanzo 'Variegata' which then sported out the very white fan which is basically Hemerocallis kwanzo ‘Variegata Select'.

Also separated a light green fan from same plant which is growing to monstrous proportions. The leaves are striped light green on mid green.
Can't wait to see what goes on with it. It's really ginormous already!  :o

Wish I could grow peonies down here. Yours is lovely.  I'll settle for a peony hard lily I got off of ebay last year...still not blooming though.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Amazing photos as always, Joyce!  Just gorgeous...

'Aquarius' is a cool grower, it is one of my favorites as well.  If you do not already have an M. coccinea, hunt up a 'Sanbar Red Flare'.  You should be able to grow this HCC AOS clone, and it is incredible.  I hope to divide mine this coming winter, if you do not have one by then, I may have a division for you in the spring.  The coccineas are large, and they give the more showy, "classic" orchids a real run for their money.  This one does need cool conditions tho, but the skill you have shown with 'Aquarius' (and maybe some of your compost tea!) will give this rather difficult orchid just what it needs!  It is worth a try!

Thanks everyone! 8)

The photo of the orange daylily is not my photo but one I found on the web as an example of what they bloom looks like.
Mine so far is not growing much, probably because of all the rain and COLD weather.  ::)

Steve, I have to take an updated photo...the Masd is covered in blooms now.
Will try tomorrow morning.
I would love a piece of your 'Sanbar Red Flare'.  :)

Teresa, I don't fertilize my peonies at all.
When we lived in NC I used to grow them too and the trick was to plant the with their crowns above the soil line.
They need a good winter chilll to produce blooms. Planting them 'high' chills the crowns in the winter.
I noticed several people in our NC town had beautiful peonies too.
So it's not impossible to grow peonies in warmer climates.

Peace to all  ... Joyce

It is doing very well and came back wonderfully from death's door  O0 That is such a fun thing to do..........to purchase those forlorn looking ones and bring them back to life  :) I purchased 2 Knockout rosebushes w/ powdery mildew that looked like crap and I brought them home, pulled off all the bad dead stuff and sprayed a mixture of water w/ baking soda & a bit of dish soap on them and this year they are doing just fine  @O@

Teresa:

I have seen both 'Scarlette O'Hara and "Krinkled White' growing in Wrightsville, GA, so I know they would do well for you in Hotlanta.  Just do as Joyce said, plant with the eyes right at the surface.  Don't abide by the Northern rule of 1" under the soil-you may only get foliage.  And I do not fertilize them either, just mulch with compost and that is it.  They will live forever on thoughtless neglect, and remind you each spring how they earned that spot in your landscape!

Joyce:

Gorgeous Massie!  You have found a new friend, it appears!  Lot's of people fail miserably with these, which is likely why you rescued this one in the first place!   O0  I will make sure one of the coccinea divisions finds its way to a good home on Long Island!!!
