Where does everyone buy their pond plants from?
« on: July 20, 2009, 11:14:59 PM »
Hi I was wondering where everyone buys their pond plants from??? Maybe we could do a vender feedback in this forum?? ::) JUST AN IDEA!

Texas Water Lilies - I bought plants from this site twice and I've never had a problem with them. The first time I bought plants they sent me nice sized lilies and all of them ended up blooming that season except maybe the red flare. This season I bought lotuses and they gave me an extra tuber. I was really excited about that!

Utopia Aquatic - This season I bought 2 water lilies from Lorenzo and I was REALLY happy with them. The foxfire was a blooming size!

I trade right here. Only one dud and she is long gone..  She had no idea how to ship.  They were bone dry on arrival.  I paid for those, but usually a trade or postage.  I, of course do the same for others.
Lawana had lemons from me. ( Twice, I think) Real Lemons, not a euphemism. o(:-)

I will usually order from eWaterLily.com every year, have placed orders with Lorenzo, Tammie, & Bonnie to get Craigs lilies, & also with Lawanna.  Frank also sends very nice lotus tubers in the spring.  Plus I will do the occasional trade with other forum members.

Kat I'm also thinking of ordering from eWaterlily. What size plants do they send?

The hardies I ordered in the early season were just small divisions last year.  This year I ordered a hardy & it was bigger.  The tropicals are blooming size.  Their prices went up this year but they did have a sale this summer.

Here or Hughes Water Gardens which is local for me.

Kat's waterlilies are half the price or less than they are locally.

I have bought all mine from either Kat or people on here.  I want to say all my lilies are from Kat, but the other pond plants are from what other people were offering.  I have got a couple from local nurseries, but they are a lot more expensive.

All of mine come from the forum in trades or generous people giving them.  I think they make a garden special when you look around and say this one came from so and so in so and so.

Almost all of our pond plants came from members here
I couldn't have afforded to buy them locally
The average water lily at any local Garden center here runs in the 20 to 30 dollar range
Lotus are crazy high priced, 50 to 70 dollars for one
Thanks to all the generous members here and.....
 I totally agree with tinkster
the best plants in our yard are the ones that came from friends

Our local pond store charges $30 plus tax for a potted water lily.  The marginals are around $10 each but you've got to look them over good to find the pot with the most plants.

I'm going to have to get in on the action here next time.  There are only 3 stores within driving distance here that sell water lilies and they begin at $49.99 and go upwards of $75!

I used to buy live plants from Lowe's, but now they sell useless dormant plants that don't grow.  There's a nursery within about 40 minutes that used to sell some nice plants, but they've gotten pretty bad about it... the first year they had a great display and I bought a couple then, now they have nasty looking plants with lots of junk on them, and their ponds are not very nice anymore.

So this year I did trades with people here and I think next spring I will do the same.  I always have extra violet stem taros (I think I sent out 16 altogether this year) and so far everyone has loved them and can't believe how fast they grow...if giving a couple of them away gives me some lillies or floating plants....I'm all for the trade....keep it in the family, so to speak!
I'm broke and can't afford to pay attention, so you might have to lend me an ear.

My mom said she saw a lotus plant for over 150 at the store. I guess it's cause it's grown and potted. BUT 150? I also went to armstrong gardens and saw their lilies for 40 dollars.  :'(

I can believe that price, sooks!  The large pond store just over into NJ also has some large ones - I don't even want to know the prices - it would make me too upset!!!  Especially since we can't leave them outside over winter here. :'(
