Stuff happens, Sorry Craig!
« on: September 02, 2009, 07:21:07 AM »
For some inexplicable reason the illustrious Craig gets this message when he tries to sign in
"You are banned."  It is not true , of course. and we are seeking to rectify it.
It has happened before. Seldom for sure.
It may be a glitch on his end. :'( :-\

It can't be from his end, all he is doing is clicking on the bookmark for the website.
He gets a message saying he is banned, that he asked to be banned.
There is no way that is happening from something he did on his computer.
What I am wondering is if (mentally disturbed) someone guessed his password,
hacked into his account and asked to be banned.
That's the only way I think it could happen other than an administrator doing it on purpose,
which we know is not the case.

So when and if Craig finally gets allowed back, he should change his password IMMEDIATELY.  (8:-)

Wow, that's weird. How was he able to tell you if he was banned and couldn't log in?  Moreover, how is he going to see this thread if he can't log in?

I think if I logged in and saw that, I would be in shock, and then feel unloved... :(

Hope it gets fixed soon- Craig is cool!

Craig contacted me via email and asked me to notify Jerry of the problem.  8)
I copied/pasted his emails and forwarded them to Jerry.

And you are right, he can not access the forum at all.
When he clicks on the bookmark/favorite, he gets a banned message.
He only knows he is getting PMs because he gets email notifications.

Sean did give Craig an explanation, after considerable research. :'(
Here it is as best as I can explain.  His service provider somehow stuck him with an IP number that asked to be banned!  This can be rectified.  Sean did tell him how.

Actually I have tracked down the exact problem, the banned message came from Yacht Lady when she requested to be removed from the membership.
The problem is she like Craig had a non static IP Address also known as a Dynamic IP address which is assigned each time your router attains fresh access to the internet such as when you turn off then back on your router. We did ban Yacht Lady as requested but did not remove her membership, nor will we ever. The issue is, all the Dynamic IP addresses she ever used with her ISP are now banned so anyone who acquires one of these addresses will in kind show up as having a banned IP Address. This is what has happened in Craig's case.

Joyce, when this also happened to you, I assume it was the same situation as I was unable to find a reason you could not access the forum from work yet you could from home. Your IP address was not showing as blocked but you also had a very long list of Dynamic IP addresses. It is most likely that someone we banned in the past had an IP address that was used by your employer at that time.

I have written Craig and explained that all he needs to do is reboot his modem and it will acquire a new Dynamic IP Address which will solve the problem.

Cheers,
Sean

Relax Howell, if that is what happened than only someone with a Telmex IP number could get you banned  {nono}   Here's the deal - for a small mordita (paid in lotus) I will promise not to request banning, OK?   {:-P;;

I am so computer illiterate, if I received a message like that, I'd just slink off into the sunset, never to be seen again.

Esther,
Since we're Facebook friends, if either one of us get accidentally banned we can communicate with each other through Facebook, and then whichever one is still able to get on AP can communicate with Jerry and Sean.  O0  Indiana Karen and I have each other's phone numbers, so we're covered too.

It would be a good idea for everyone to have someone else's e-mail or other contact information so your 'buddy' can communicate with the admins on your behalf.

That's true, I would be stuck for life.  Oh wait, I do have Kat and some others emails from purchasing lilies, so I'd be okay.
