I'm sore and I don't even have a pond yet!
« on: September 13, 2009, 06:18:57 PM »
I forgot how sore one gets when planting perinials.  Over the last few weekends I have transplanted over 100 Iris (Germanic, Siberian and japanese) as well as 60 day lilies...I am sore.  Anyone ready to dig a pond?

Here are a vew shots of the new house.  The last one is the view from the seat that heads out to the Rappahonock River.

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

Oh my!! What a lot of work. It is very satisfying though to look around and see what you've accomplished.

A lot of work and it looks gorgeous, you really have results to show for your pain.   It is peaceful looking out there but I think all those dark woods would scare me, I doubt I could sleep.  I'm just not a dark forest, woods kind of person.

Thanks all.

Jonna:  While isolated, the stars have never looked brighter, it really brings them out being away from people with no light polution.  Late at night I sit at the end of the dock and I can pick out a lot of the constellations.

There are so many cool birds, even hummers that I have seen such as reticulated woodpecker, owls (need to identify what type), bald eagles, osprey's, herons, hawks, finches, blue birds, cardinals, even mocking birds that seem crazy...they repeatedly run into my front door transom!!!  A few more shots.

It is gorgeous, no doubt about that, and pristine.  I've just always been afraid of dark woods and being up under a lot of trees.  I like the open areas by the dock more but those dark forests are menacing looking to me.  If I were out there by myself I'd be barricaded in the house.  No way could I go out at night to see the stars, I'd be too busy watching for something coming out of those trees.  Weird, huh?

 lol You are too funny Jonna............I wonder what got you so freaked out about the woods? Did you grow up near any and something bad scared you I wonder? I just never heard of anybody being afraid of the woods except maybe "Little Red Riding Hood"  :o. Guess we will have to do an intervention on ya and take you slowly step by step into the woods so you can see the peace, beauty and all the little critters you are missing and that there really is nothing to be fearful of...........well most of the time anyway  {:-P;;

Nothing ever happened, I just grew up in open space and on the ocean.  I don't like it when I can't see the horizon.  I like visiting and walking around for a bit - in the daytime!  But, I could never live up under big trees.

Hi Jonna, Perhaps you watched the Wizzard of Oz too much...lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my.  Well I don't think we have any big cats in the region, but my neighbor spotted a Black bear swimming across the creek from the park.  Perhaps we need to start out one tree at a time lol
