Whew again
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:19:22 PM »
Once you glue the cannons down to the deck and glue the deck on top of it, at times a few of your cannons come loose as you handle the ship. After many times of trying to put them back below decks and wiggle the end of the cannon through the tiny port, you realize that this is fruitless. I finally snapped to lace the thread through the cannon port and glue it to the end of the cannon. You can then pull the cannon back out through the port and upright it, gluing it to the port as so....

This ship is a lot more complicated. Some of the sails do not hang on yardarms but on the thread that is the rigging. It takes a tiny drop of glue, a steady hand and my "helping hands" to hold the sail in place as I gently blow a warm stream of air to dry the glue, like this...

All I have left are three more sails that hang from rigging and then to rig her out. She is a really fine ship.

I am building glass cases for them so they don't gather dust. The bar on our screened in deck has a pirate theme and they will rest there. Friday I'm going to buy the "Cutty Sark" a much more complicated ship with many more sails and more rigging. I'm learning as I go and really enjoying it.

You are definitely keeping busy and I was glad to be able to read more of your story  ;D. Now Felipe is getting down to the business of doing his pirating and some real swashbuckling I presume  :o.

Julles, I will determine when I'm ready to go back to work and my doctor will back me up. I get full pay for 6 months and then half pay for 6 months. He sent me to physical therapy and when I filled out my paperwork they said "That will be $30.00"

I said "Three times a week? For something that happened at work? I think not." My job is denying that the injury happened there because it was in late 08. Still, they know I was injured fighting that fire and was sent to the hospital at the time. They don't want it to show as a "lost time injury" as this affects their safety record and insurance. So, I googled "post operative knee exercise" and have been riding my bike every day for a few miles.

I'm not about to go back until the pain is completely gone because they are very shorthanded due to their cutting jobs and they will have me pounding the stairs for 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

I only have about 2 hours worth of rigging left on the "Jolly Roger", she will be finished today and the I'll start on The U.S.S. Constitution "Old Ironsides", she is a level 3, the most challenging. I learned a lot from the first two and am building the case for the first one.

You are definitely keeping busy and I was glad to be able to read more of your story  ;D. Now Felipe is getting down to the business of doing his pirating and some real swashbuckling I presume  :o.

The writers forum that I found has been a great help. Any original work is copyrighted from the moment that you write it. Forums, such as this one are time stamped and dated and are tangible proof that you are the original author. If someone were to steal it (like anyone would want to  ;D) you can get any and all of the money that they made off of their book.

I was having a lot of trouble with the separation of dialogue into an understandable form. A man there named Robert edited the whole chapter and now I can make it more easy to follow. They also point out things and make you rethink the story. They really liked Andreas and thought that he and Felipe worked well together so I am going back and editing the entire thing. It does make for a more interesting story this way.

You are on your way to becoming a writing success out there in the big world if you keep on the way you are heading  @O@. Do we get to hear more of the story or must we wait until it's published  ::).

Well she's all rigged out.

I taped a piece of paper on a box and put it behind her so you can see some of the rigging. You can also see some of the men on deck.

On a real ship, each yardarm from which the sails hang need rigging to add strength and to tack them. The bottom corner of each sail needs rigging and pulleys so it doesn't just flap in the breeze.

What a beauty of a ship she turned out to be  O0. You've done a wonderful job matey ;D.Those sailing ships have so much character to them and when you see them on the water in movies they always look glorious floating across the waters  o(:-). Do they have any real ones left anywhere I wonder that sail?

The tall ship "Ellissa" rocks on her moorings tonight in port on Galveston Island as you read this. She is a regular tour of duty for new Coast Guard recruits if I'm not mistaken.

Bullfrog my friend;
When the day comes that this fine piece of literature goes to press. My wife and I will be heading down to Texas to celebrate first hand with a bottle of some aged rum and smooth cigars for all. We will toast to your success in your pirate bar and revel in the glory of all things pirate.
Keep up the good work, and if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know.
