Have any of you had a problem with plant sellers here?
« on: November 10, 2006, 03:22:01 PM »
I refer to what is purported to be  a member of our site.  We are hoping it's all a mistake.
I am not referring to plants arriving in bad shape.  I am referring to plants NOT being sent! {nono}

Your input please.

If it is any guide, any Priority parcel that has a wrong address on it gets returned to sender in about 14 days or so, though the possibility of someone swiping it along the way out of an insecure post box is always a remote possibility.

The first time I sent out parcels, half a dozen were stolen from the post box here... now they always go all the way to the post office to eliminate that risk

If the parcel is damaged, leaking, enroute, the sender might get a phone call to ask what the contents are before the Post Office attempts to patch it up and complete delivery

Arizona and Washington state seem to have more atrocious delivery problems than most. A relief driver might refuse to deliver parcels, at all... or the Post Office, having tried to deliver it with no response, sit on the parcel at the post office and expect you to go asking after it...

A 'missing' parcel is really very, very rare, less than 1% failure rate, the usps....

Regards, andy

I haven't made any plant trades here nor have I made any purchases.   I was pretty heavy into trading plants on the GW plant exchange a couple of years ago but I finally got more than enough plants and I have since quite trading.  I suppose I made somewhere between 40-60 trades on the GW and although I was disappointed with a few trades, I was never stiffed by another member.  But then again, I was pretty cautious with my trades and did some homework on the other person before negotiating a trade.....

It's disappointing to hear there may be an unscrupulous member here.

We have that relief driver problem here as well Andy. Regular guy on vacation, means all the packages just pile up waiting for him.

I also love this system where someone has to sign, or they won't leave it. In this day and age, how many homes have people home all day? Then, when you come home and find the slip "sorry we missed you . . .", one has to alert the office that you will be coming in real late because you have a lily dying in the post office.

Cheers,

Mike

Yes it is Mike.  You are indeed preceptive.

Andy this was a case of just not sending after being paid.  The buyer and seller do communicate.

Seems the seller spent the money and is too destitute to return it, but promises to  ship in the spring. Mighty odd to say the least. {nono}

My own experiences have been good.  I did have some lotus tubers arrive completely dried out.  It was a case of a new seller not experienced in proper packing.  Nothing malicious at all.

I solved the problem of bad trades by not trading.  If I have extras of something, I'll give it away and expect nothing (not even postage) in return.  That way I'm never disappointed.  Every now and then, someone will appreciate it so much that they send me something back - which always makes me smile.  I have thought of selling some things that I can get that others have a hard time getting, but I haven't done it yet.

UPDATE ON THE CASE IN QUESTION:
After furthur investigation....
The buyer and I agree it was a case of difficult circumstances for the seller. Sure, they were wrong, but seems to be a square shooter and "we" think the problem will be rectified in spring.
We wish the seller well.
The buyer is most magnanimous about it! o(:-)

I have had no problems at all on this board, no problems as a buyer/seller/trader except years ago someone complained about what I sent them on the board without discussing it with me first and it was a gift too, not a trade. The same person did it to several others so I know it was their problem, not mine. It was quite rude but after a rough start, they later became a valued member/friend.

I have never had a problem with buying or trading with any member here....but, of course I only tend to buy and trade with people I know I can trust....and as a seller I can totally understand things happening...and it takes good communication between the buyer and seller to make sure both understand what will be done to make both parties happy.....its good to hear that in this case they were able to come to an agreement...

I have never had a problem or caused a problem with plant purchases/exchanges. I only send my extras for shipping and have always been paid one way or another. One time I did tell someone I would pay shipping for what they sent and when it came it was HUGE. I ended up throwing out some of it but I paid the full shipping charge.

I've never had a problem trading or purchasing.  However, one time on the other board, I did make a purchase.  I sent the check as soon as I signed off the computer, went straight to the post office.  One week went by, I asked if they ever received it they said no, but not to worry give it a few more days.  I kept asking about every other day and nothing.  Finally I told her I'll just mail another check, and I did.  She got that one in about 3 days.  Then the following week, she received the first one (it took it 3 weeks to get there) , and sent me an email that she would just tear it up.    But, I've never had a problem with any trades I've made, or purchased.  I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Those big tomatoes are fake Esther.  They are bushel gourds painted red.  Impressive  as can be, but F- A- K -E, FAKE , FAKE!
If they were real they would be 10 pounders!
Big Zaks are worth planting, but need thinning and bog time feeding for big fruit.  I did get a few over 2 pounds.  I would have done all of the above, but just got swamped with other things.
Esther you will have mail this week.
