How to Disable voice "You've Got Mail"

Jerry, Sean,

      My apologies for asking this, but how can I disable the audio notification "You've got mail" ?   I usually don't turn up the speaker volume, so when I do -- and get strange voices it's a bit unsettling.

Really?  It's built into the forum.  I never heard it before today.  OK, shutting the speakers off again. 

But when it says "You've got mail" what the heck does that mean?  I haven't found a mail box on this forum.

It means you have an instant message and you can see it in the 'my messages' place on the top of the page under the AP T shirt---that row of buttons--just click on the 'my messages' and it takes you to any messages someone has sent you. :)

Wish I hadn't gotten this one.  My post about the Indiana license plate containg both the US flag and the words "In God We Trust" offended another member.  Taking it down.

Jim:  I sent you that pm and you completely misunderstood what I was saying.  In that thread about the Indiana license plate you said something about it being a shame that you couldn't discuss politics or religion here.  I was not offended by your post about the license plate and in fact enjoy discussing politics & religion.  In the pm I sent you I was merely referring you to a website where you could talk about such issues since they have been restricted here in order to keep the peace.  I apologize for not making my comments clearer.  -Mike

there are hundreds of forums for those topics.   I know a few who tried it and were promptly called names!
Jim if your speakers are off you won't hear a thing.  It is, to most, a good feature.

I don't get it...why would you have to leave?  Personally, I'm a little offended by someone who posts here, but I don't leave and won't suggest that they should, I just don't read their posts. 

That's the nice thing about forums...you know who is posting something so if you don't like what they say, don't read it!  There have been a few I don't read, and I'm sure there are some who never read what I post.  No reason for anyone to leave, it's not like a real-life gathering and you have to stand next to them! lol

Jim: After you hear "You've got mail" you then access "My Messages".  After you read your mail and return to the forum you will again hear "You've got mail".  Hit your refresh button and that will clear the "You've got mail" message.

When I read what I took as a complaint/concern by Jim with respect to not being able to discuss religion/politics I sent him a PM.  I don't recall exactly what I said but it was something similar to: "Jim: if you want to discuss religion or politics Bullfrog has a site where you can do so."  I then provided him with a link.  My response to Jim was supposed to be informative, not chastising him for his thread about the license plate.  In hindsight I can see how he took my response as criticism and he thought I was telling him to leave.  Sorry Jim.

I personally like it when my computer tells me I've got mail.  Two reasons: 1) someone is finally talking to me and telling me that 2) someone else wants to tell me something.

Awww Jim. Stick around we are a pond forum and a discussion board too. I too was a little disappointed with the banning of those topics but not to the point of needing to leave. This forum allows us to block anybody who seems to cross us so that is kinda cool too. I still haven't done that to anybody. Maybe they have to me. That's OK. We all are different and feel uncomfortable with different stuff. I don't see a need to block people because I can just skip reading what I don't want to see if there was one. And I also understand that I can't control what someone else says, barely can control what I say. LOL. I do find it unsettling though that one person can object to one thing somebody else says and it will be removed. But on the other hand, maybe the offensive thing was deemed to be that way by the powers that be.  Oh well. Glad I'm not the boss. I've seen things I probably would have removed but realize that others don't agree so didn't say anything. Only once when somebody had joined and had a blatant for sale pitch right away on the pond side. I then reported him and it shortly was gone. But if it wasn't removed, I wouldn't have left.\\

As for PMing Blindtoo, don't forget, MASCOT is his contact name, not Blind Too. Something is odd about that. I have tried and tried to send him messages and then couldn't remember what his actual contact name was.

Hey, what happened to my reply from this morning?!?!, about websites that have automatic and irritating music or voices - like a lawyer friend's of mine.  I would like to browse his site, but having his partner's image walking all across the screen telling me about what a dynamic duo they are, that drives me bonkers and I have to shut it down.

Also, I'm on another forum that give no audible notification, and you would never even know you have mail unless you happen to look at the little icon way at the top.  I missed three messages for a long time, before I noticed that icon.
