Coyote sighting and my idiot neighbor. Rant of the day!
« on: December 30, 2009, 06:54:25 PM »
He knocked to complain that I had too many plants, thus the Coyote was seen.  He also complained about falling leaves!  Yeah, hard to believe.
When he moved we had a stand of volunteer pecan trees at the street end. He paid $400.00 to have the ones on his side cut down.  Looked awful. he asked me to do the same. I refused.  They did grow back and look good again.
He says my Gardner blows leave to his property. (maybe?)  I pointed out that the prevailing winds are from the north and that's where they will blow.
I am sure he will ask me to remove the trees as well!

"Mr Genius" bought the home a few years ago in a booming market and announced he is selling. I asked why?  he said to make a big killing!.  of course the market tanked.
I don't know if I should laugh or cry?

Hi Jerry,

That is quite interesting about your coyote sighting. We have coyote here in the city of Tacoma, WA, and they have been spotted in several places after dark. This last Saturday morning about 4:30 AM I was and the dog was awakened by the yippy squeel of coyotes not far from house in the green belt between us and the freeway (I-5). I was kinda hoping they would get hungry enough to down into my neighborhood and thin out some of these damn racoons that rumage through the area in the night.

Growing up here we never saw any wild life other than birds here in the city limits. Now we have deer, racoons, crows, squirels, Possum, Bald Eagles, heron, and heaven only knows what's moving in next.

Oh yeah, thank GOD for good neighbors. It seems that this economy has weeded out some of the riff-raff that we had as neighbors. Except for the animals moving into the area, we seem to have little tighter community here now.

We have moved into ther habitat.  Amazing so many adapt well.
Coyotes are seen here all the time. No not just in the foothills.  Even in Beverly Hills.  High quality garbage there  @O@

We have coyotes here in the city of Charlotte, NC.  I'll bet the vermin are present in every state of the contiguous USA and would be in Haiwai if they could swim that far.

In Hawaii they have  mongooses. Its the exemplar and true story of environmental tampering. The ships brought rats to Hawaii, and the rats became a problem. Some genius decided mongooses would end the rat problem, and let a breeding pair or two go. Now Hawaii has a mongoose problem.

We have coyotes here. My dog hates them - so they aren't a problem.
One of my neighbors down the creek feeds the Great Horned Owl that lives in the trees. The Owl hunts cats in town. Used to hunt my chickens, but I built a coop and stuck them in it, end of Owl problem.

I believe the rats are nocturnal and the mongoose were diurnal.  Some genius!

For about 10 years we would hardly ever see a mongoose.  Then a couple of years ago we started seeing more of them again.  I kinda like them, they eat the eggs of the feral chickens and peacocks... guess if I kept chickens or wanted the HUGE herd of peacocks I'd not like the mongoose.  The peacock population is getting out of control!  Kinda funny to see a peacock fighting with it's reflection in your car bumper - not to funny when your bumper gets scratched!

Jerry,

No we didn't move into the coyote's habitat. The Tacoma/Seattle are here in the northwest was settled by lumber mills and the railroad back when it was nothing but timberland and forest. At some point about a hundred and fifty plus years ago all of the trees were cut and settlements everywhere popped up chasing off  most all of the wild life from the area.

When I was little, I remember seeing logging trucks coming down out of the mountains with cut down fir trees so big around that only one could fit on a truck at a time.

Now there are so many trees and green belts in and between neighborhhods that there are many places for all of this wild life to migrate back into. and people around here wonder why their cats come up missing.

I live in an area outside of Grand Rapids that used to be country and now has had several plats built up around us. Our lot is real long and narrow, only about 100' wide but 1000' deep. The lots next to and behind me are the same way. So behind us is a gully and woods. We have seen wild turkeys, ground hogs, skunks, deer, raccoons, rabbits, ducks try to settle in on our pool cover each spring, hawks, black squirrels as of about 5 years ago, never before that in 39 years we've lived here, and Pete saw a coyote a year ago fall.

On the news, they are hollaring about hearing a wolf about an hour drive from here. It keeps them awake at night.

As for your neighbor, tough. I would politely listen while thinking, "Tough!!" and say, "Oh."

I have a jerk for a neighbor.  An trying very hard to "visualize" him moved away.  It's my New Year's resolution, to focus on this goal.

Jerry, maybe a little Creative Visualation will work for you, too.

It was not a topic starter
Marine:  yes I know.  At one time Coyotes were a western U.S. phenomena,  No more.
They are even on Long Island NY   They are very smart and adapt well to just about anything.

Sunbeam:  Just an idea, but it could be a fun trip.  Free poop at Rorak's dine with julles ,  visit Carlos in San Antonio and more.  Spring sounds good.  Love ideas and input. o(:-)
