Snow
« on: December 31, 2009, 08:07:57 AM »
We had 11 inches of HEAVY wet snow and the power was out 11 days.  That's 1 day per inch.

One day with a generator saved the frozen food, and my indoor lilies pulled through just fine although they got a little leggy, which might be good if it stimulates them to put up surface leaves.

I was very worried because there could be a hardy blue in the bunch.

Hi Mike, glad things are relatively okay.
Show us some pics of the snowfall if you get a chance.
Have a safe and Happy New Year.

Hi Tim I was wondering where you were lately.

Things are pretty good here, I am working on various different manifolds with valves to control and distribute hot and cold water from my big wood fired water heater in the green house to the various pools inside and outside the greenhouse.  I spent 140 dollars for PVC parts to build an input and an output manifold with valves for the heater. I still have to build 2 very complex and expensive manifolds with valves for my pumps for hot water circulation through the heater and to the pool heat exchangers.  And I have to build at least 4 more manifolds for the heat exchangers in the pools which should have 2-3 tubes each for maximum heat dump.  It will be so nice to have the greenhouse totally under control with heated filtered pools and tubs growing seedlings all year.

I filled the outside swimming pool to the top and surrounded the base with hay to prevent ice from killing the seedlings in the bottom.  I will have it heated next year.

Here are the pics you requested.

First my breeding ponds.  Next the greenhouse and step van I live in.   And a pic of the horses by the island pond to make it pond related. kinda.

Wow...
Horses are knee deep in it aren't they.
Glad things are working out for ya.

I have been working like crazy at my job.
Getting ready to leave for work and I might not get home until the New Year... hope to get home a bit before midnight if I can though.
I had to cram over the last few weeks to get that last IWGS Journal done so when I wasn't at work, I was working and not able to surf the net.

Have a good one.

Tim

I really enjoy snow photos.  Thanks for sharing.  Looks like more than 11" of snow on your van.

I agree Mikey. I sure like seeing it.  I prefer it in photos.  The horses seem happy with it.
Can they get into a sheltered area?

They can get out of the snow if they want to, but they don't want to.  They're fat and they don't feel cold.
