So...what do you do?
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:22:41 AM »
Those of you that are covered in snow, what do you do this time of year instead of ponding?  At least here we can do a little something 'cause the weather is only bad for such a short time.  Just curious.

I've had about 3 weeks off work over Christmas, and have been cleaning the house.

There are always projects to do: sewing, crafting, building the nestbox for this spring's parakeet breeding, socializing, etc.

I don't get snow on my ponds but the water is colder and the plants are resting until Spring.  In the meantime I work on my garden to remove all the old growth or plants that don't work well in the design of things.  I have a few new plants I need to get in the ground soon for them to root in before the heat of summer.  I also need to prepare my vege garden for a new bunch of veges I hope to grow.  Plus I need to install a new drip system to save on water.  It's gonna be a busy winter......

Besides being the timpanist in an orchestra here in town, I am working on finishing my train layout.

Bob, that's quite impressive.  What plans do you have, exactly, for your set up?

Wow, it's so neat to see what other hobbies everyone has...keep them coming!

I like to do the inside "clean up" around the house when it's too cold outside to go outside.  That way I have more time in nice weather to be outside!

I also enjoy reading all snuggled up....especially gardening, birding and ponding books/magazines.

wow to the train set up!
Here where the weather is mild we still do yard work, the pond plants are kaput, a few are hanging on.
I will rearrange the pond plants and vacuum the pond

Read. I watch more TV than usual in the winter. I'll sometimes do a craft project but not much anymore.
I also like to do jigsaw puzzles during the winter. I've got one going right now.
I try to work on things inside the house that need fixing or updating as I don't want to do that type of stuff during the summer.

Bob, I love your train room. My husband would be green with envy. ;)

Like Bob, we like trains as well. All of our Marklin trains are in storage, as well as the American Flyer... but we've discovered Lego trains. Having young kids, the Lego trains are durable.

Of course, if you have the trains you need a town. We haven't eaten in our dining room for a few years...  ::)

That last pic is a little blurry because of the action... little Matthew running around to arrange things properly, and the Lego Holiday Train whizzing around the track.

For Christmas, my hubby gave me an adorable Lego house with a pond out front!

It's hard to see in the pic, but there is a little duck in the pond. Should have positioned it better. Lego is notoriously difficult to photograph, and I am no photographer for sure.
