My semi awesome anniversary present. Apologies to JC.
« on: February 08, 2010, 08:06:35 AM »
We went out for Dim Sum.  I am assuming it is widely available, if not here are a few photos.  This place is huge.  The food is served from little carts.  You pick what you like. It was all good, some better than others.  Not having a good knowledge of the offerings didn't help also the language barrier was a problem.  It was still excellent.

here are a few of the carts.

So that is interesting. I've been to Oriental restaurants before but they were all regular menu selections of buffet type. I bet it was nice though.

Happy anniverary Jerry!  I love dim sum.  They do serve different stuff there and the varieties are awesome!  Since you are in California, I bet they speak Mandarine Chinese or Cantonese so I won't have problem understanding them.    O0

Did you try some chicken feet?    ::)

Not China town, but Rosemade, Monterey Park area.  There are a few palce closer to home where they do have a menu as well.  It would help to identify a few dishes. Only a few Anglos there.

My Mom and Aunt prepared chicken feet.  I freaked out as a kid and never tasted them.  Funny cause iv'e had Pig's ears and liked them fine

Very nice looking place Jerry!  I would love to try Dim Sum--all the chinese restaurants around here are buffet style.  I want to eat what THEY'RE eating!!  I would love to try chicken feet--my DH wouldn't though.  He can hardly eat chicken wings....and then gives them to me when he's done... ::)   lol

Funny cause wings are so popular.

I got her this Indian Pendant. It is a siver bear paw with turquoise.  if she won't wear it I will the next time I am asked to play a native American!

Beautiful pendant Jerry.  Do you know the artist's name who made it?  I ask because a high school friend (Navajo Indian) makes that type of jewelry.

I like dim-sum also but because the fetching one now has allergies to fish/shrimp I never eat there with her anymore.  I guess we eat at Chinese restaurants that are too authentic because we too had the problem with the waitress not speaking English and we were too shy to ask English speaking Chinese customers to inquire as to which dim-sum was fish-free......

mmm, I went to a Dim Sum place in Monterey Park a couple years ago, wonderful food although I had very little idea what I was eating.  I just looked at what was on the carts and if it looked good I pointed to it.  Incredible place, huge and loud and full of people.

Same here Jonna.  The place was more like a "hall" I bet it could seat over 200!
It's called "888"

I adore dim sum. I can't eat much of it nowadays, because of the high sugar/carb content. Have you ever read the cookbooks by Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook)? Absolutely delicious!

Language is no barrier for me... yummy has no national boundaries.  :)

Is there anything not remotely Asian that is not completely delicious?  :) I know, double negative. That means all food Asian is delicious. American Asian, however, is not authentic. Kind of bothers me...

I'm glad you posted the photos.  Dim Sum is very popular here, but I've never known what to expect when you go there.  Now I understand a little better.

Sounds like a lot of dough to me, though.  Aren't most of the dishes dumplings?

We're big dim sum fans... however, we always seem to order and eat rapidly...perhaps in fear that the carts won't return. :missing:
