Be safe Hawaii, Alaska, California (everyone)

Hope its not as bad as they think its going to be.

I know I've complained about all the snow we've had this winter, and the cold. This just proves, no matter how bad you think you have it. There is always some where its worse.

I don't think that Tammie is on the main island and if I remember right, she's quite high up and away from the edge of the island. I remember seeing a picture of one of our war ships out in the ocean and it looked like her ranch was high up.

I am on the main island - Oahu, but I'm high up - I think I'm 500' above sea level.  It wasn't as bad as they feared it would be, and pretty much over now.  It sure was impressive watching the live video of Hilo bay emptying out and then the water rushing back in.  That happened 3 or 4 times.  I heard on the news that the water level dropped about 10' and then came rushing back in.  Saw some trees that were about 4' above the normal tide line that had water up about 3' on their trunks.  Hilo is on the Big Island, not the island I'm on.  The water here did recede, and come back in, but not bad and didn't look like the water came over the normal tide lines.  Sure did pull out tho.  I tell you, as fast as that water was coming in there is no way a person could have stayed on their feet.  And it was going out even faster.  As kids we were always taught to never turn your back on the ocean...
The roads are all still closed here, we haven't gotten the all clear yet.
Scary way to wake up in the morning - with the warning sirens going off!

Tammie  So thankful you and yours are safe.  I suspect was weird watching the water
pull out, then come back, then pull back.  That is something I'd want to watch from
safe distance. Like someone else said, we've all complained about our horrible winter,
but it's about over. Can always look around, see someone  in worse shape.

Breathing a sigh of relief that you have the 'all clear' this morning.  Be safe!

Glad you are fine Tammie.  I too watched that live feed from Hilo bay, amazing to watch it empty out and refill in just minutes.  I saw a similar video from a small resort town in southern Mexcio, boats high and dry and then flung over the boardwalk onto the road.  The real horror is in Chile, really an incredibly horrible thing.  I've been through some big earthquakes but I can't imagine one that size and lasting that long.  Not good at all.  It sounds like they have a good infrastructure and are doing what they can but they will need help.
