I am so sorry.  My daughter's TB passed in November.  He was a great horse too.  I feel your pain.  It's so hard.

Aw nuts! :'( I'm so sorry.

Losing horses is tough. Losing any pet is tough but horses......are tough.
I lost JR (my avatar) in Sept. suddenly. It is difficult. :(

Its bizarre. But the sympathy of people who I have never met (other than over the ethernet) but who have experienced the same, does make it more bearable.
Thank you.

Lena had a good, long run. She was 28. Positively ancient for a horse.  These last few years we called her the Gray Ghost.  Lame as can be, and it hurt sometimes just to watch her move, but she was still sweet and proud. When she was "loose" in the yard, you had to remind yourself not come crashing-out Savannah's back door.  (Lena would power-down right there on the porch, a silent sentinal looking for a "nummie").  More of a pet than a horse, really. o(:-)  And if you had a ripe peach in your hand, you'd find-out just how motivated she could still be!

In proper Robinsonian tradition, she'll get a tree this weekend or next.  Hers will join two other trees, also placed atop their namesakes:  "Six". "Shorty". "Lena".

My QH mare is 29 this year. She still does o.k. We have to work at it to keep her weight up because she doesn't have many teeth left. She doesn't see real well and she spooks easy so you have to make sure you start talking to her before you approach. She still likes to run when we turn her out in the field out back. She still insists on being the boss though and she bullies my Paso mare around. ;) I've had her since she was about 1 1/2 so it will be rough when her time comes.
The oldest horse I've had lived to be 32.

I'm sorry Sunbeam, I do know how you feel.  Getting close to having to make a desition on Chewy.  He has andihidrosis (unable to sweat) and Cushings.  The oldest horse I ever had was Peacock - a lepord appy that faded to a flea bitten grey... he was 38 years old.  I had his reg. papers so I was very sure of his age.  No matter the age, it's hard, really hard.

Thanks, Roark.  I wanted to know, but didn't want to ask, if Lena would be buried on the farm.

Lena's granddad was Doc O'Lena. I don't have the whole line memorized.
Its a good bloodline.

We tried to get her preggers twice - but both times she couldn't carry it full term because of the pain in her knee. :(
