Blogs - What's a "Tag?"
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:27:33 PM »
Well, I started a blog to help my business, and I've been blogging away, but nobody ever visits.  Someone told me that I need "tags" to attract people to my blog.  And maybe I should also be "tagged" on other people's blogs??

I haven't a clue what they are or how to get them.

Any help?

Oh, BTW, it's

Nice Blog! I read quite a few entries and really like it. You have successfully presented the case on why most people should hire a professional, but at the same time present good tips.

I prolly can't answer the tags question. Maybe if you log into your blog account and write a blog, there is a button you can click to "add Tags"? When you get to the "add tags" window, I think you're supposed to type in words that relate to your blog post.

For example, on your blog post about "Odd blistering with Grasscloth", you could add the tags: wallpaper, grasscloth, problems with grasscloth, blistering wallpaper, blistering grasscloth, etc.

It helps people find what they're looking for.

You have written a great blog, breezy, informative and with examples.  I like it.  Tags are assigned to individual blog posts and to the page as a whole.  Google 'optimization'  'meta tags'  'title tag'  and see what you learn.  What you are trying to do is get the search engines to find your blog and place it high on the list under certain search conditions.  Usually the most important things in list ranking by the major search programs are title tag, words in the copy itself and links back to your page.  You want to know what is the most common phrases or keywords used when someone is looking for wallpaper hanging.  Then, you want to use those words as naturally as you can and as often as you can on your page.  That will help increase your ranking.  Get your city and other local areas in there as well so when they search for someone in your area, you show up.   If you have friends or business associates and they have links to others on their page, ask them if they will link to you and you will do the same for them.  That will raise your incoming link score and theirs.  It's a science these days but with a little reading you can make a big difference in your ranking.  Check it too, google various things you want your business to come up on and see where you rank.

Good work, you have a natural, easy 'voice' in your blog, it makes people feel comfortable and want to work with you... that's good!!

Depending on which blog software you use, you need to find the spot where you authorize comments.  Usually you can choose whether to moderate them, see them before they are posted, or not.   You should have a choice of No Comments, Moderated comments only, all comments.

Thanks Jonna!  Seems all blogs are not the same.  This is a free one from Google.
I did check thoroughly, but will continue to do so.

Thank you all.  I'm still learning.

Tinkster - el Jeff told me you sell wallpaper, a long time ago.  Say, what has happened to el Jeff, anyway?
