Buckhead
« on: March 19, 2010, 02:06:29 PM »
Sitting in a motel in Buckhead, Atlanta at this moment, drove down from Charlotte this morning and had lunch at the Buckhead Diner ($52.00 including tip).  Will likely have Nancy's Pizza for supper. Hoping it will be as good as CPOG in Chicago.  Will be heading to Roswell in the morning to look at a craft work box the DW is interested in.  Then on to Cumming, Ga. to peruse some antiques, then likely back home or wherever DW has a whim to go.  Would like to go to the SC botanical gardens, but probably will be too far out of the way..

That's what I was wondering. Either that or the place had fabric tablecloths, napkins and all the trimmings.

That sounds like a nice well rounded little trip!  I wouldn't think lunch at a "diner" would cost that much either... yeesh.

I try to avoid Atlanta. It's just a two hour drive from here.
Happy ponding,

That was lunch for me and my wife.  I had fish and chips and one beer and she had shrimp pasta and iced tea.  The Buckhead diner is first class, all the waiters address you by name.  Good food, great atmosphere, but not a place i would eat even once a week if I lived near it.  Special occasions only.

Johns, because it was called a diner, we were picturing a little joint with recycled brown paper napkins and greasy french fries. We missed the mark on that one. It is fun to go to nice places every so often and see how the other half lives.

By CPOG, did you mean Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders? I looked at their website and it looks very appetizing.

Someone wrote a lovely piece in Chicago Magazine about the 30 best burger joints, so a friend and I made a pact to visit every place. The first one we visited was Paradise Pup, and the angus double char burgers were delicious. And that was only rated # 24.

Is Nancy's pizza famous there? We have a Nancy's pizza here, but it's probably not the same one.

Good luck with the antiquing. If you see it, buy it.

Buckhead Diner is definitely good food from a fine chef but also definitely not everyday food.  I live less than two minutes from the diner.

Sorry I missed you Johns . . . would have liked to meet you.

Darn, teresa,

We would have loved to see you too.  Had no idea we were that close.

Am back home now.  Went to Roswell, bought a "Scrapbox" to be delivered in a few weeks.  Ate at a lovely place (She Crab Soup) and hit a bunch of antique stores there.  Drove to Cumming Ga, went though the big antique place there, stopped in Gaffney for supper and got home at 8:30 PM.  Had a good time loved up the Beagles when we got here, they are on their big pillow on the sun porch about five feet from right now.

Karen J,

Yes Chicago pizza and oven grinders.. a real Chicago experience.  Incredible place!  Nancy's Chicago Pizza is a  franchise chain now, but only in Illinois, Georgia and Indiana so far.
