The Easter Bunny Left a Present
« on: April 05, 2010, 05:52:18 AM »
I got a 'new' pond!!!  I'll share pics asap, but for those who remember, I had two ponds linked with a waterfall.  Well, I was feeling froggy and got a new HUGE liner and my bf and his buddy got digging.  (See, I can cry bad back  ;D )  So it's now about 10' x 30' with depths of 4.5' to 1.5' in the shallows.  The fish are dying to get into it... almost literally - the punks are trying to jump out of the holding pool.  I have work and school tonight, so I promised them even if I have to move them in the dark they'll be home tonight.  I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!  I can't wait until Tuesday when I don't have classes and I get to plant it up!  I appologise in advance for the pics I'll be posting!

Don't let those fishies go dry like a certain seed that you were trying to start. {:-P;;

Congrats on the new pond. Would love to have one that big.
Happy ponding,

Sorry, no pics yet.  The feesh did well.  They kind of looked dumbfounded at the size.  A few of the younger ones like to try drag-racing.   o(:-)  I'm so happy.  Now I'm trying to get my lilies into the pond.  Silly thing is that the pond looks so empty!  I jokingly told the BF that we need about 20 more feesh now  {:-P;;  I promise pics as soon as I get the yard a little less destroyed-looking.   @O@

The bucket is going to be changed out for a more effective filtration system (thanks Johns!), and I want to plant some tough spreading plants around since the dog seems to think it's his personal race track / swimming pool  ::)  Suggestions, comments?

I like it! I would love a pond that big! Do you have the bog separate from the rest of the pond? How do you keep the little gravel in the bog and not in the pond? How deep is the bog?  I'm trying to do the same thing - can you tell??

All that I did was take those same rocks that are around the edge and stack them.  I should have taken a pic with it empty - it looks a LOT like one of those big slides that you get in a burlap sack and slide down.  lol  It has the same bumps and changes in elevation.  The little bog is at the edge of the shallowest part, so I just followed the line of the first drop and brought it back to the short end (clear as mud, I know).  Then I took about 6 bags of pea gravel and dumped it into the hole.  That's it!  The shallows (to where the rocks end) is about 9", the next depth is 15", the next is 34" and the final is 46".  I just measured today.  I figure it's roughly 4600 gallons using an average depth to calculate.  I'm so excited that I have so much room for new, larger plants I couldn't have before.  Plus I have two large, unused liners now....  {:-P;;

Awesome Katfish--hey I thought you were supposed to be studying!   :D  I like it and love the corner with the cool plant stands, very unusual.   O0

Wow, it's enormous!  You can swim in it!  It's as wide as the car, for crying out loud!!  I love the large flagstone edging, too.  If that's DH in the background, he deserves a double kiss.  XX

Say, does your neighborhood not have curbs and gutters?  I thought Houston was the only big city that didn't bother to install curbs and gutters in all its neighborhoods.

Thanks everyone!  Yep, there are curbs and gutters, just don't show in the pic I guess.  I wanted to get night pics since we have solar lights around it, but I was deep in chemistry  :D  I'll try to post a night shot later.  I'm very happy with my easter bunny  o(:-)

That's a very beautiful pond although the fence around it looks a bit fragile..... I could be wrong though
