I think I just got spammed on Facebook. I just received a "friend request" from a koi business here in CA. There was no message of introduction, just the friend request. This is the first time I received a "friend request" from a business. The owner may be a member here or on another pond forum but I don't recall seeing posts mentioning such.

I did too! I told him since we are "friends" how about a paid ad on "AP"

I got a friend request today, too. I went to Facebook and couldn't even figure out who it had come from.

But I DID learn that a friend of mine in France, is currently vacationing in THAILAND!

Now, why I can't I be so lucky?!?

One of my ads on fb a few days ago was for Lorenzo's Utopia Aquatic, so I became a fan! Haven't seen the friend request you guys got.

I agree Jerry that it was a targeted search and in my opinion just plain spam in order to drum up business. I'm guessing they are getting names off of various Facebook watergarden/koi groups. If incorrect I will apologize.

Because you have "friends" who are "friends" of that Koi place, either the company did that or the Facebook software looks to see who are friends of your friends and did it. I got it too. Simple I just ignored.

I just think using FB to spam members it is a tacky, intrusive and rude way of doing business. It is not the type of behavior I would consider encouraging by giving them my business. There is another koi/pond business that I made my friend, however, I actually know them and I went to them and made a friend request.

I recieved the request from the koi place in CA also, I'm sure I got it because I am mutual friends that are there, and then they can tag on those friends. I usualy double check who I become friends with, did not have time to look them up yet. I do agree it is not the best way to get bussiness, and I'm sure that is the main reason they are getting friends is to promote themselves with the multitueds, kind of like free advertisement.

Mine turned out to be from a woman from whom I occasionally get e-mails and Face Book requests - but I don't recognize the name or the photo. For all I know, it could be a classmate from high school. Why don't married women use their MAIDEN names, when trying to contact friends from the past??

I agree that it is just an advertisement tactic. No biggy.

I have become aggravated with all the stuff I'm getting because of all the Cancer places that my kids are involved with and I've fanned them. My pages became swallowed up with all this Cancer stuff and grieving stuff. I don't wallow in my grief and get on with life so deleted most of them. Maybe that is a tacky thing to say but Braeden has been gone now a year on the 18th and I don't see why/how it helps to talk about him every day and paper the walls of my home with his pictures and only post stuff about him and not the other LIVING kids-----. It seems like their lives still is all about Braeden and the rest of us are "old hat". I worry that the kids will feel this too. I guess different people grieve differently.

Yes, there are some "groups" or "causes" that once you join they will bombard you with messages, sometimes several a day. I then will hide or leave such groups.

I'm not sure. I know that you aren't allowed to actively sell stuff on FB, they didn't want it becoming another Craigslist. However, you can become a fan of businesses.

Facebook doesn't allow spamming members and that's why I reported it. I don't want to mention the name of the business that spammed me......but if we were playing "hot/cold", you would be pretty hot.....

So if the Koi company searched through their fan's lists of "friends" and picked out people to send an invite to, that is spamming?

That's what I would call spamming. They don't even know me and I don't know them. They didn't ask these "friends" if they could send stuff to all their pond friends. I need them sending me "friend requests" like I need junk mail.....

If they want business, let them do the honorable and ethical thing and pay FB and run ads.

I tried sending them an e mail no luck. I called and left a message. I told him to check out this thread. I said. "You can fix it!" Was then cut off.
