Jerry, do you have trouble finding them? I have never had a problem. Just curious. I have used them for years instead of the more expensive "pond" fertilizers. They are the perfect size and ratio of NPK.

Not just me LeeAnne.  We had a thread about how hard they were to find. Plant food easy, but the Tomato formula seems ideal for water lilies.  It is rare here.  Yes. I tried the usual places.
I have bought them from Amazon! O0

Yep, our Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware stores are about the only place in town that carries them. Sutherlands carries them too. They are like Home Depot but only in the western states.

We have a store here called Christmas Tree Shops.  It's mostly in the northeast so far, and they sell seasonal things in addition to a few pieces of furniture and home goods, some food, stationary, toys, etc.

That is the ONLY place I have found the Jobes tomato spikes the past 2 years here in my county and 2 surrounding counties.  I'm not sure they are this year's spikes, but it didn't seem to matter when I used them last year - they worked just fine.  They are the 6-18-6 this year.  I bought 4 packages of 18 which should be good for the 5 hardy lilies I have in the pond.

I can only find the regular spikes, not the tomato specific ones.  Does it matter that much?  I've been putting them in the lilies.

Yes, high Phosphorus encourages more flowers/fruit.

I buy mine at Bi-Mart a local variety store chain.

Looks like Amazon will have to be my source.
Jobe's ought to package it and call it "waterlily spikes"  you just know ponders would buy it.
I'd do it myself if I had the time.

Has anyone used the tomato spikes on other water plants?  I'm wondering if it makes a difference on plants such as lizard's tail, cannas, etc?

Actually, they did a few years ago. They are on Ace Hardware's website but are "out of stock."
I have never actually seen a bag of them. They are/were the same ratio as the tomato spikes. Didn't ever make sense to me to
pay more for the water plant version when they were the same as the tomato. ::)
http://www.acehardwaresuperstore.com/jobes-aquatic-plant-fertilizer-spike-p-61864.html?ref=42

I've used the tomato spikes in my other marginal plants too. Iris, cats, crushed ice, arrowhead, pickeral, etc.

Better yet manufacture the things yourself.  I think its a great idea!

I can have her get more and ship them if you want Howell?  They are about $1.50 a pack I think she said.  6-18-6 or something close.

Jerry, it's hot but I'm loving it.   I'm a heat lover and this weather is perfect for me.  I finally got to take the blanket off the bed and just sleep with a sheet, that's my favorite luxury.

It was pretty hot and muggy here today too.  I just looked at my weather thingy and it says 84°F at 11:45 PM.  We just walked home from a cafe in the centro where we went to hear some friends play music and the air was warm and velvety.  I jumped in the pool when I got home and now I'm cool and comfortable.     o(:-)
