Author Topic: My "Reel" at long last. Scott! got it! (Read 2716 times)

A reel is a 2 min (or less) compilation of some of an actors work. The purpose is to be able to submit it to a Casting Director or agent. Actually to anyone in the in industry who wants it.
It can be done electronically, ie; the recipient can just click on it off of an actors site.
Pretty easy huh?
What isn't easy is my posting it here. No luck at all. I can get it on You Tube and then can post, but in the interest of speed, I will email it to Sean and he will post it right here..I hope.

(I did get it on YouTube, but it takes a bit of time until it is available tor cutting & pasting.)

looks like I will have to blow one out. YouTube thinks it's a duplicate. True, but only a few seconds, Now it says "The video you requested is not available. :'( maybe it will be soon, no idea.

Sean gave me the answer, YouTube need some time. BINGO!

Me too Luann. I was in a few but they never have been shown yet. One a TV movie called "Unusual Suspects" a Docudrama.
The magician segment was my first one ever and I think the best one, Maybe because there is no dialog!

Thanks for the comments. It is impossible for me to be objective. The wizard who put it together kept asking "Do you like this?" I kept saying I wasn't sure. Like in one's garden we see the flaws.

I've seen plenty of your stills, but the video really shows the range of what you are able to do. I'm sure it will get you plenty more gigs.

I liked the magician one the best. I think you are better at physical acting than verbal, if that makes sense. Sometimes your words sound memorized instead of natural. But the magician was good and told the story very well. LOL. It was fun watching the video.

The secret is not to look like you are acting. Not always easy.
Some stars that you see who were "discovered" like out of the blue, have had many years of classes and training. I start a new class in May 11
Pro classes are costly 400.00 is not unusual for 4 sessions. They like to call it a Month, it's still 4 sessions.

When Dustin Hoffman did the floating in the swimming pool scene for "The Graduate," Mike Nichols told him do it over but act less. (he was merely floating) he did and Nichols said again, "Do it over do less!" Hoffman said , "Then i won't be acting!" Nichols replied, "You got it!"

yes, they were super. As I said that was my very first. The director and crew kept cracking up. I wondered if I was doing the bumbling right. They assured me I was. I thought they were just being polite.
It did make it to a festival and garnered prizes.
The Director has a site and under favorite actor he has my name, I was amazed.

I'm not sure I agree with Esther on this. Maybe I do. Anyway, it was really nice to hear your voice, and I think it has a very distinctive quality to it. Think: "you feelin lucky, punk?" ... that kind of distinctiveness. However, it needs something. I don't know what... maybe a little louder?

I apologize. I know that I attended far too many rock concerts when I was younger and my hearing isn't the best. But I really think you can capitalize on that nice, velvety quality of your voice.

I don't disagree Karen, but keep in mind these are STUDENT films. Minimal direction. I love direction.
It helps tremendously. A good director can make the performers better and better.
Sound? again it is not top equipment. Some graduate thesis are.
If I do any more student films I will only consider them if they have certain things going for them.
And only to keep busy and hone skills.

Very well done. You sure could pass as a " Real magician'. My husband is a Magician w/ his own Magic shop and has fumbled the tricks to get a laugh. But you looked very natural. And most Magicians dont talk they let the act speak for its self. Very well done!

Iam a member here but most of the time just lurk, and your history of the AP how it got started ..wow...brings back the memories!

Thanks guys. It was natural cause I really didn't know what I was doing. The crew was LOL so I staed with it.
Since than I bought a book and can now do 2 tricks!
