My pond
« on: May 05, 2010, 05:16:04 AM »
Here is my pond and fish and the 1st water lily of the season. I have small goldfish in there but since I went to the garden show here a few weeks ago and got some 3-4 inch fish to add to it....I have had more enjoyment than before.I guess cause the new guys were used to being fed. So the others realized to get fed you must come to the top! :) It is so much fun watching the fish bop the pads and chase each other all over the place.

Very nice pond!  I love to sit by my ponds and feed the fishies.  My koi have been starving the past couple weeks because of my water problem...long story....but now I'm feeding them a bit and they will try to suck it out of my fist.  Fun!

Nice looking pond ... I have too much shade and lily pads don't do well in my pond.

Yes, I love my pond and the plants & lilies.  But it just wouldn't be a pond without the fish!

:) Thanks everyone for the kind words.Howell, I got the lily from 'Matherfish' a few years ago for the reason you like the lily pads...they were so different. And last yr and now this one it has done really well. My Lotus are pushing up huge pads...cant wait for the flowers.
I ve had my share of problems with the pond...mostly them dratted toads! Whatever they put in the water while they are having wild whooppee killed 2 groups of fish I ve had in there. If you see me now at night,(PETA would be screaming if they saw me) scoping out the toads 12, 14, 25, at a time...dumping them in a bucket w water and letting them go in the back yard... i want no toads in my pond again. I dont know how to keep them out but since I have the pond is doing super! So i guess ya do what you have to do!! :)

I didn't know that toads excrete something that kill the fish?  That's not good at all! :-\

That said... last year we had so many frogs calling out to each other at our pond during the mating season, we couldn't hear ourselves think!  For such teensy creatures they surely make a racket!  :D  I've only heard 1 so far this year - I don't mind them, but that noise was incredible! :o

:) When i first started out with water ponding I had some neighbors that thought the reason we had bugs in the neighborhood was on count of my tubs of plants-water. So i welcomed the noisy toads... to drive the neighbors crazy. :) but then after seeing what they do -did, nope they are out of here pronto! Maybe the size of the pond or water debth, the fish couldnt handle it...maybe larger pond it would be okay. It looked like an oil slick on top w along the string of toad eggs...... the fish all floated up dead..... so I keep a watch full eye out for the little creeps! !
