underwater lights
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:08:05 PM »
Hi all
I would like to add sme submerged lighting to my pond. I have a dedicated GFI outlet for my filter and could plug in there. I've seen some sets with 3 lights on a cord that look good, from %$70-$100.. can anyone give me some recommendations for underwater lighting that has worked well for them? Thanks

Carlos builds ponds and he once posted something about his under water lighting and he posted a link to this site for lighting.

I have used submersible lights.  Fish didn't like them at night.  So I took them out of the pond and illuminated the exterior area including the waterfall.  I bought a set on sale from a Petsmart about 2 years ago.  They still work and I haven't had to replace anything.

If at all possible use led's. A single flood/spot uses between 20-50 watts. I have about 12 in my pond for various effects. By switching over to led's I now consume less energy for all of them than one of the previous incandescents. This also allows you to use a much smaller power supply

I don't like them...they are gorgeous...but, a pain in the rear end to keep clean....and to me they just don't put out as much light as I would have expected for the price that I paid....I'd rather just have the solar lights that float on top and solar lights around the pond--they are extremely cheap and seem to last....

what do you mean, fish don't like them??? Do they hide from them?
Also I would get the ones you can turn on/off, not have them all all night. Just when we are hanging out there in the evening.

They stay away from the illumination.  Normally, the submersible lights come with a light sensor so that they turn on at night.  There is no timer.  I bought a timer used for outdoor Christmas lights.

When I had them, before they went out, the fish were always swimming around them.
