The frost you all have is what we need here to kill off the Azolla that becomes an infestation every winter.

We had nights in 30s a few weeks ago and then days in the high 80s... one of my La Iris must have thought it was spring... I've got 30s coming back at the end of this week.

The last of the pictures from today...
The cold will certainly do a number on my plants at the end of this week but they always say "If you don't like the weather in Houston just wait a minute because it will change." So I still will probably be able to provide pics down the line if you kind people so desire and I get my normal warm December days.

P.S. None of my pictures are changed for saturation. I make sure the exposure is as I wanted. The cold nights followed by very warm days makes the color pop on many varieties of lily.

It's an amaryllis - my favorite one, in fact. I had several of them and then last year a raccoon trashed all the plants I had in the garage . . . . I lost a LOT of my amaryllis and I'm pretty sure all of these. I found the bulbs in the local pond & garden center a couple of days ago . . . . bought myself 3 of them and planted them right up. There's another one that I love too . . . . and I'm not sure if I have any of those left either.

The other one that I really want to get another bulb for is amaryllis cybister lima . . . . it's another narrow petal flower and I had several of it but the 'coons ate that one too.

Did you find it at a big box store like Home Depot or a mom & pop nursery. I have found the Papillio online for $14.00. Did you get a much better deal?

I've got rain and a case of the drearies here too. I have to try and get some of my rarer lilies under protection before the end of the week. I was hoping the rain would hold off until Wed but it moved in early today.

The first papilio I got was from Smith & Hawken for $3 in the clearance bulbs . . . . I bought several of those and several of the Lima and some La Paz (like lima but different colors).

I've bought it other places, but this year I found it at one of the more expensive garden centers and paid all of $12 a bulb because I really love it and wanted it so badly. The bulbs for this amaryllis are not as big as most amaryllis, so getting a big bulb is tough. I haven't found La Paz or Lima at anyplace I've ordered from, but mzbulb.com has a set of 5 cybisters that I just might have to ask Santa to bring me for Christmas . . . . anyone ever ordered there?

Here is the gift I gave myself over the last few days. I am on a vacation so I have spent most of each day building, wrapping and now filling it with my tropical lilies. I got almost all of them in today. I have about 25 more to move in tomorrow before the 40 degree weather hits at about noon tomorrow.

Well this showoff pulled a muscle in his back today keeping the new greenhouse on the ground. We have dropped almost 50 degrees since yesterday. We also are having 30 mile an hour wind gusts. It has been an interesting day battling mother nature. No snow but what a pain today has been in more ways than one.
