too many plants?
« on: May 24, 2010, 08:21:48 PM »
Was working on repotting and other maintenance of the pond plants this weekend.  Was out there all day yesterday and part of Saturday.  DH says "if you were out there all weekend and you are still not done then you have too many plants!"..... :P

Little does he know that I just sent Kat my plant wish list and will be expecting "new additions" soon.  Not sure how to hide the arrival of new plants though.... ::)
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Don't worry, you'll be able to squeeze them in  {:-P;; O0 :)

As for spending a weekend on plants, don't I wish!  I've spent days, weekends, weeks, etc. getting all my ponds cleaned, lilies repotted, & more lilies repotted/divided, shipping plants, cleanup, etc.   :D

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Hmmm. The problem is more how to, hmmm, or whether to sneak them into the ground. Does DH sleep soundly? How much do you want to keep this a secret? Evidently he wouldn't notice them growing. Send him on a shopping trip in another town. Or get one of his friends to take him bowling. You'll figure it out.

I was at a girlfriend's house one time, and she was opining, because, "Rusty said I had too many potted plants, and he made me get rid of most of them and said I could only keep four."    :o :o :o   What kind of modern relationship is THAT?!?!

Makes me glad I never got me an "other half!"

I have this rule that I am not allowed to buy more plants until the last group I bought are planted.
So usually I plant them immediately...often when hubby is not around.  {:-P;;
This also keeps him from knowing how many are actually out there.  lol

When he makes comments like, 'WOW, those sure are spreading!'
Or, 'This bed is filling in fast!'
I just stand there with a poker face   and say...'Yup!'
Peace to all  ... Joyce

I've learned from Lawanna to keep some extra change in my paypal account strictly for plants.  That way I can write it off, with my wife, as a trade.  No harm there.

My hubby doesn't care as long as he isn't involved in the least little bit.  The only way I was able to get my wood sided ponds was because I asked for them each year as a birthday present  {:-P;;    Thankfully he did help run the rototiller where my iris flower bed & begonias are.

I can buy as many plants as I want (but I make sure I use the money I earned!) but he frowns at me whenever I look at watering cans  lol lol.  I've only got 3 & make use of them all the time.  Could use a couple more  :D

In early spring severasl years ago after a trip to the greenhouse, DH asked me if I "could afford" all those plants.  I told him I'd go back at least twice and if WE couldn't afford all the plants I "wanted" he'd better give up tobacco, beer AND lotto tickets.  He said he was just teasing...I said I wasn't.  He has never said another thing about it.   ;)

I like that.  I think I said something similar once, except I can't get around the argument of " you're going to have to mow the lawn around all those tubs and containers sitting in the lawn if you keep adding more"  He hates mowing the lawn around them all.  I don't want to mow the lawn either.... :P

My husband does not care if I buy plants. I usually buy them for my birthday or anniversary presents. He does not say anything about it that way. ;D
