Hibiscus 'Pond Scum'
« on: May 28, 2010, 05:12:03 AM »
Hibiscus  'Pond Scum'. Really, that's it's name.  (8:-)
I shared this with John Johns a few years ago and he sent this back to me this spring.
Today it is blooming.  8)  You can see why it earned it's name.  lol

Another shot...

Thank You John!

Thanks Lynne! I think so too. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  (8:-)
I feel sorry for people who see it as ugly.

This hibiscus is a beauty: a bronze-green, gold and orange tribute to our favorite pond problem, Pond Scum!  O0

It has LOTS of buds coming along too. @O@

Joyce - is it hardy where you live?  I know you are in a slightly warmer climate than we are here, so I was wondering?

I will admit, it is unusual, but I am one of those people who do not find it attractive. With all of the beautiful colors out there, I am not one to want to spend time and space on it. I am glad it is available for those who like it, and I have no problem with those who do. It is obviously not for everyone. I am glad you made it available for us to know it exists. Thanks

Mather,

This is the kind of exotic plant that appeals to serious plant collectors, such as myself, who are always looking for the unusual, and appreciate plants that are "off the beaten path".  You are right, plants such as Pond Scum do not appeal to everyone, which is why you will not see the like at Home Depot or Wal Mart, but must haunt the specialty nurseries such as Plant Delights to find these jewels.

;D Not sure about me not being a "serious" plant collecter, but it is not my preference, you are right.  ;D I do like different plants, but just not wild about this one.  ;Dn Glad you like it, and the others that do, however. Just expressing my opinion.

Looking at your terrific pictures again, I'm wondering how large the blooms are?
