Basic design. Length is 29 and width is 19.

Mark up from Thursday night.

When I left for work Friday morning, this is what was happening in my back yard!!! (iPhone pic)

Here are some additional photos throughout the day. (rest are Nikon D60 pics)

Final hole. Our neighbors keep popping in and asking if we're putting in a pool!  8)

It's a crepe Myrtle, probably original to the house (1965). It will be covered with pink blooms in just a few weeks. The diameter of branch spread is at least 25 feet. It's right in the middle of things and somewhat obstructs the view but it's really pretty and provides so much shade!

Jessica- Do they also take care of the electrical piping and hook ups or do you have to hire a seperate subcontractor for that?

Does that mean your lily pons has been growing in a container pond?  If so did it bloom well?  Sorry off topic, but I was curious.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

What did you do with the dirt you took out?
You are gonna want some to build edges and the waterfall. :)

Thank you for all of the positive comments! We need to build up about half of the perimeter due to the slope of our yard (posted on pond construction side of forum). DH and I are debating between concrete blocks or a concrete collar. It needs to be raised about 12-14" behind the bog. Not sure how to make sure our wall is strong enough against the water in the pond.

GT, we are very DIY, my DH will take care of all plumbing and electrical stuff. All of my plants have been in the containers you see in the photos for the past 3.5 years. Lilypond hasn't been an extreme bloomer for me yet, but it has bloomed (so I feel lucky :) )!

Sunbeam, 36 yards of soil were hauled off by the excavator in 6 dump truck loads. We did keep quite a bit of soil, but it's in a pile on our driveway.

First, about the neighbors, did you notice they had their fingers crossed when they asked about the pool? LOL

Looks like a good start. On one hand I envy you and on the other I don't. It'll be fun decorating around it and placing the plants.

Like Sunbeam said, be sure and build up the edges so you don't have runoff get in your pond when it rains.  We used every bit of what we dug out and hauled in more.  It still settled in places and we had to raise the liner and add more dirt.  Oh, and don't cut off that extra liner........it's amazing how much you need as things settle.
I'm excited for ya.  ;)

You are going to have a fantastic pond and there is so much room to landscape all around it.  I'll be excited to see change this whole in the ground to a beautiful oasis for you, family and friends.  Bet you are all kinds of happy since the work has begun.
