Beautiful plants matherfish, just stunning.
I have hardies and I am trying to grow night bloomers from seed and I believe it will take a life long to see a grown up plant. I can't order tubers from abroad cause I am not sure if they survive in the post. You have wonderful plants, thanks.

Oh so pretty.........makes me want nightbloomers again.  I used to get them every spring off of LouAnn (wonder whatever happened to her).  I would send them back to her in the fall, cause I hated to see them die.  My favorite was red flare.  Got tired of the koi digging them out of the pots.

Wow, you have blooms on your nightbloomers already?  Mine are only just now putting up tiny surface pads or sprouting from tuber...and I live in Florida!

My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Just bought my first night bloomer Saturday, can't remember the name just know it's supposed to be red.  Had at least a couple of bud's on it already so I am hoping they will bloom soon.

I think they are outstanding.  I'd give anything to be able to grow lilies day or night bloomers.  I just don't seem to have any luck with them.  I would love a brilliant red one but at this stage I don't care if it had polka dots.  I'll keep trying.  Photo's like these keep you going and hoping I'll get some going eventually.

For those of you in northern states, buy blooming size nightbloomers & treat them like annuals.  If you do happen to get a tuber & spring rolls around invest in an aquarium heater & daylight spiral PC bulb/light fixture.  Grow it in a heated tub until you can put it back outside.

I grew a few with no problems here on LI.
Just plunked them in the pond along with all my other trops.
The one I like the best is Missouri.
24" pads and 10" blooms planted in a mud bottom pond.

And another way you can overwinter tropical tubers is to free float them in a heated aquarium over the winter.

 :)

In Oct here in my area I over winter my tropical lily tubers in a zip lock bags with damp sand. I put them in popcorn cans to keep mice out . I store them in my basment on a dark shelf for the winter the lowest temp is 55*F. I stored over 200 last year. You can easily save tropical lilies if they tuber. If no tubers I have cut the lilies back and repotted them in a smaller pot and put in aquariums. I can sometimes save them this way too. Why treat as annuals and throw out if you can possibly save them for another year?

Joyce - do you mean you leave them in the pond year round?  I kind of wondered about that.  If they don't freeze, why couldn't you?  No one with fish in their pond has one that freezes all the way down...   Surely there's faulty reasoning there, but could someone tell me why I shouldn't do that?

Katfish, some I leave in the pond especially if they are not so special to me.  ;)
But Missouri I pulled out and mailed to someone late fall.
It was HUGE and trimmed back to nubs (both roots and pads) was over 10 pounds.
I can't remember who I sent it to. Was originally from Marilyn in TX.
Maybe Jessica? I can not remember.  :-\ Maybe that someone will speak up.  8)

I already have found southern homes for all my trops this year, once it gets cold.
I really do not prefer to leave them in the pond, special or not.

I haven't had any trops winter over in the pond.
This spring I got excited because I saw green growth in one of my trop pots but it was just a false alarm.
It's the cold that kills them even if they are under the ice, not frozen.

It's so easy floating them bare root in my big 80G aquarium to overwinter.
No rocket science or fussing involved.  ;)
Even floating they try all winter to grow pads.
So when I pot them up...they are sooo ready and start growing immediately!  O0

Peace to all  ... Joyce

Tropical lilies can be kept by storing the corms over winter. If you allow your plants to get stressed somewhat at the end of the year, they will form a corm, which is a nut-like tuber. They are usually near the surface of your pot, and can be taken out and stored in slightly damp sand in a baggie for the winter. Store them in a dark place that stays 50-55 degrees during the winter. In the spring or summer when the water warms, add water to the bags and place in a sunny area, and the corm will start sprouting new plants. Once they are growing plant the plants and keep in a heated aquarium or plant outside if the water and air temps are warm enough. The plants grow quickly once they are planted and in sunlight and warmth. Some store the corms in basements, and others store them in refrigeraters, or in garages, if they stay warm enough. I have stored them in the crawl space under the house.
