Late Afternoon Pix 6-4-10
« on: June 04, 2010, 05:48:20 PM »
This is Lysimachia japonica minutissima which is about 1/8 the size of regular Creeping Jenny and extremely dense. Not a weed will ever penetrate it. I have it as a ground cover under my Villa Taranto Japanese Maple.

A red Iris I got by trade (can't remember who so if it's YOU please refresh my memory)  ?)(?
These iris are growing in my perennial garden, even though 'some' will insist they are 'only' aquatic. Just proves they've never grown them as perennials in average garden soil. ;)

Another Iris I am pretty sure is from Kat...

This one too...?   ...please refresh my memory. ?)(?

Euphorbia 'Jessie'
, a gift from my friend and the developer of the plant, Barry Glick.

Closeup...

My Clerodendron trichotomum Variegata growing, up, getting bigger and bigger. Might bloom this year too! Thank You Savannah!  O0

Amsonia tabernaemontana funky steel colored buds open up to the palest ice blue-white for the next 2 months. Screaming yellow fall foliage.

Acanthus spinosus in bud, bud is 8" by 3" approx. When it finally blooms, stalk can get 8 feet tall. Can you see where it got it's second name from...spinosus?

I'll post a follow up on this plant when it blooms.

And...knock on wood...so far all these plants are deer resistant.  8)
Peace to all  ... Joyce

Nice Joyce.

Is Lysimachia japonica minutissima something that will spread and not go out of control? And can I grow it here?
Thanks,
Steve

Just lovely Joyce!!!!  o(:-)  I have a blue and the yellow "water iris."  Mine have never been in the water, they are growing in a low spot in my back yard.  If you divide your's this summer, please let me know.

Blessings,
Deborah....Shawnee, OK

Steve, it spreads very slowly for me here.
Definitely a ground cover but not rampant.
Should be hardy for you there. 8)

Thanks Tink, Jerry, Savannah and Deborah...
Won't be dividing for at least 2 more years since these all have been in the ground 2 years or less.
But will remember you when I do. (hopefully...poke me if you need to)

Savannah, it's not an artichoke but it sure does look like a fancy one.
Wait 'til you see what it looks like blooming!  8)

I'm loving that Euphorbia Joyce--it's beautiful!  And in that last pic--is that plant actually prickly, or does it just look spiney?   :)

It's a bit spiney, hence the name Acanthus spinosus.
Really quite soft spines. You have to touch it just right to feel any pain.  :o
