KOI won't surface feed
« on: June 10, 2010, 08:53:51 AM »
 :-\ We bought some Koi for our pond last summer along with 2 plain goldfish. They all made it through the winter as we are in Colorado, but now they won't come to the surface to eat. I was feeding them the floating sticks last year and they loved them and flakes for the goldfish. By the end of the summer the goldfish were big enough to eat the sticks, but this year they won't come up and eat. I have to put flakes in and they wait until they fall to the bottom to eat them. I'm concerned they won't get enough to eat, especially the koi. Any Suggestions?

No real idea, but will they ever come up?  If not, maybe there's a predator they're frightened of?  {nono}

I had water problems early this year and was told to knock off feeding my koi.  We love feeding the koi.  I had to hide all the fish food for 3 weeks!  They can survive and will eat the algae clean off the walls of the pond.  Like Katfish mentioned your koi may have been frightened by a predator.
