name of website to check internet related scams?
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:04:15 PM »
Can someone tell me what the name of that website was to check internet related scams?  A friend of mine sent me an email to checkout some webpage for an ipod for cheap.  I thought the email was weird but had talked to her recently about replacing my earphones for the ipod shuffled I got for xmas.  Then on her facebook she had a note on her wall that said if anyone received an email about getting an ipod for cheap that it was a scam and to change our passwords.

I went to that website and tried to search for earphones for the ipod shuffle and did not find any. I don't remember if I actualy opened the link in the email or cut and paste it into a new browser.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

There was a good article by David Horowitz (sp?) in the most recent Costco magazine, and he said never to click through an email link or website link. His advice was to Google said link instead of cutting and pasting into a browser. If you Google it, you'll get tested results that will reveal whether these sites have malicious intent. I don't really know how that works, but hope that helps.
If your friend warned her friends (including you) on her facebook, I'd probably take that seriously.

If you run the newest version of AVG Free, it has a Link Scanner that works like a content adviser that also will let you know of malicious content before the page opens.

Any solicitation that offers a popular item for considerably less than retail is a scam. I see it constantly on eBay.

Designer goods and popular electronics are almost all fakes or scams there.
