healthy koi?
« on: June 18, 2010, 08:05:44 PM »
I was in a store today where they had a very nice looking small pure white butterfly koi.  Its fins were a bit shredded, but that often happens in these stores, but the odd thing is that where the nostrils (?) are on the top of the face were fleshy looking pieces sticking up.  It's hard to describe it - the employees hadn't ever seen this before, and neither had I, so I didn't get it, because I didn't know if this was normal or not?

Anyone know?

I've seen other butterflies with those same type of nostils, I think it is normal on butterflies.

Thanks - now I wish I had gotten it - it's a 1/2 hour drive back there, and I don't want to waste the gas.  I'll know for next time though - thanks again.

my male butterfly has those---none of my females do so I'm wondering if its more of a male trait for the variety....does anyone have females with them?

Lawanna, I know that Jackie R has a very Large female that has them,  and so does terri from another forum.  Some are larger and some almost look like a skin covering, so maybe it is a genetic thing.
