Help what can you do with grasshoppers
« on: June 19, 2010, 05:55:41 AM »
They are trying to eat up every thing.  I could see there was some thing making all of the leaves on the Rose of Sharon appear very lacey.  Pretty look but not natural.  Did not take very long to see it as well as a number of other plants were wrapped up with very tiny grasshoppers who seem to have a tremendus dirise to live and grow big.  Now I am finding these grasshoppers on every thing all over the yard.  Is there any thing I can to to decrease their number or just wipe them out.  I have not used anything in my yard to kill things because of the pond.  Suggestions???    :-\

We have grasshoppers here too, but usually into late summer when things are very hot and dry here.  I've never noticed them being particularly damaging to my plants though, although I know that's what they eat.  I'd hate too see you spray everything in your gardens since you will be wiping out pretty much all the other insects too, even the beneficial ones.  Maybe you need to buy some praying mantis babies--they LOVE grasshoppers!   8)

I have at least one nibbling on my horsetail rush. All of the tops are now brown from the pest. >:(-
Happy ponding,

They have moved into my vegetable garden.  I do spray it.

In the flowers I use a systemic fertilizer.  It takes some time for it to work though.

Well, it appears mine have moved some where else.  The leaves of the Rose of Sharon are looking a lot better along with others. Maybe some got eated or died.   @O@
