For some reason, I just glanced at this post and never read it. Maybe it was just the frustration over my own lotus being eaten alive by an unwanted mongrel that my nephew drug here when told not to. Anyhow, I am glad that they are doing well for you and maybe you will have blooms within the next two years. O0

Oh, by-the-way, you never told how you planted them or what you planted them in. ;D
Happy ponding,
Scott o(

When I dug the hole for the half barrel I just threw the dirt into the barrel. We have clay dirt. Then I just stuck the seeds which had sprouted in the house into the dirt a little. I also stuck some citrus tree spike pieces into the dirt.

Lynne, starting from seeds is cheap. Just one problem, your choice is limited for true plants from seeds. I have Sacred and American lotus seeds. You can get seeds for hybrids from eBay, but you take your chances of getting what you didn't pay for. If you want to give growing from seed a try, I can spare a few seeds.
Happy ponding,

That is very generous of you, Scott, but is it too late to hope for a flowering plant from seed for this year here in zone 6?  I don't have any room to overwinter it indoors with 6 cats in the house who love to eat all my plants! {nono}  I'm not too pickly about which lotus I grow, since I've never grown any before - I just love the way the flowers look, and the leaves are so pretty too!
