sunflower

This was a seedling in the pond garden early this spring so I potted it up - a volunteer from my birdseed.  The flower is only about the size of a baseball, but I'll take it because the animals usually eat them before I get to see them in full bloom.

This year for some reason all my sunflower seeds did not make an appearance  :( :'(  Now when I drive through the neighborhood I stretch my neck out the window looking at everyone sunflowers.  You sure got a pretty one there.  Thx!

I love sunflower pics and that's a beautiful one!  They are the most photogenic of flowers.. 8)

I planted some giant ones and I had 5 plants come up.  I really enjoyed wiring them to the trees and watching the birds feast on them this past winter.  Now I will always try and grow a few.  I have to learn the secret to drying them..I didn't do too well last year, even tho' the birds didn't seem to mind.  I'll have to hang them in the woodshed with paper bags wrapped around them to catch any falling seeds.  They needed more air circulation around the head to keep it from molding... ::)

Beautiful sunflower :) I mistakenly hung the sunflowers in the garage. The next spring I ran to get them :) Critters ate all of the seeds, nothing left but hulls :o  My favs are the teddy bear ones :)
