What did you name your fish?
« on: July 02, 2010, 09:51:23 AM »
Just for fun, let's post some of our fish names. I have only goldfish (common, comet, sarassa, shubunkin and fantails), I cannot tell them all apart but the ones I can recognize end up getting names. I haven't named any of this year's babies yet since the non-shubbies are still brown, but names will come. Believe it or not almost all of my names have some sort of meaning. Here is a list of fish that are currently living in my pond (It is hard to remember the names of those that have moved on):

Howard, Jack, Bessy, Hawk, Big Red, Fred, Annie, Fanny, Manny, Bert, Squirt, Chase, Ace and Tony Henderson.

Please share. . .

The only one I have ever named was Evel Knievel. I name him that because he jumped out of the water several times and we found him in time to save him. The last time he was dry but his gill moved a little and we were able to save him. This morning I found him again but it was too late this time. I will miss him.

Vickie, sorry to hear about Evel. It is always sad. :'(

Annette, those are great names. It is funny, I have used some of the same names. I totally get Skeletor, Jack's (in my pond) full name is Jack Skullington for similar reasons I'm sure.

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

Yeah Scott, my pond is visited by a beautiful white heron. I didn't start naming my fish until I had to start taking role to see who has disappeared. It started with names like White Finn, Big Red (one), Whitey. . . Some how it just made it easier to notice how many have been taken. Eventually the started getting regular names. Now I come in and tell my wife things like "Rudy didn't come out for breakfast today". This year I have lost Rudy, GG, Toby, Pearl, Creamsicle, White Finn and Nemo. I guess it keeps me from being overstocked since they love to breed.

Obsessive, Annette? I think not 8)

Too, funny....almost posted this very question yesterday.

I have three goldies all named by g-son. First there's Shamu, so named because he actually outgrew the aquarium (didn't think that was possible) He was so large he could have literally swallowed his tankmates whole. Personally, I suspect he overheard us making plans to add on to our little puddle and decided he liked the idea of a custom built home.

He's a ham & shows off when I get the camera out. Here's a cloudy pic taken at dusk which shows his true colors

The other two are named Hablar and Faster (to speak faster? g-son was in the middle of a Spanish lesson when he named them, lol) Here's a cloudy pic of Hablar taken that same day at dusk..

If you look closely, you can see Faster in the upper left corner. She's camera shy. I currently have 4 unnamed babies. Three are still dark but one resembles Faster. If its colors develop like I think (hope) they will, she will be called Blue...or Azul if g-son wins. He's the boss when it somes to naming the fishies.
