She fooled me!  Now to keep our eyes peeled for progeny!

Jerry, they are escape artists.  She will be able to put her feet inbetween the wires and climb right up that fence.  You should roll the top inward, or cap it with fence boards.

Julles is right, they can and will climb fences but if you've turned the edge in, she'll just fall back in the sand.  If you have the time, you might want to let her out and watch her while she is out.  If she doesn't think that beach is suitable, she will either drop those eggs in the pond (and that's a mess, trust me) or become egg bound and die.

Jerry, There was a news story here about a large turtle that escaped four years ago and just came back home. It was about 18" - 24" from side to side in the picture, from what I could tell, and was found in a neighbor's yard. Facinating!

I have a  feeling that RES smell water and seek it out.  Not too much water around here, just swimming pools.  My worry is that they dont fry on the hot asphalt or get run over

I had two female sliders and I saw one laying her eggs in a hole she dug near the pond.  The eggs were not fertile and therefore there were no little ones....

Turtles are fascinating creatures.  Kudos to those of you who have provided habitat.  None have found me yet, but just as well as they would be snappers and I don't want those in my pond.  I would have to remove them to the mud creek like the big gigantic bullfrogs I get!   :D
