Hey Marla? We live in similar zones. How do you winter your lotus? How is it planted?
I want to try one so badly, but worry that I could not do it justice.....

Jennie, not an expert on this I have lost plenty of lotus. This one I actually dug a pond for...it is like 4'x6' (rounded no corners) it is about 3.5' deep then a liner put the dirt back in up to like 6"-10" from the top. Lotus tubers planted barely under the dirt and pea gravel on top of that. Was worried it might not make the winter, but it did. I also have a Green Maiden it is in a large pot, about 20" across...have also used whiskey barrels with liners. This one I take in the basement for the winter. I have also had them in large pots in the pond, and move them to the deep part for winter. I have lost plenty in the pots, both in the pond and pots outside of the pond.... but I will try again.

Tink, next year, I'm going to get a few tubers from you to give me a start until I get seeds going. Hopefully, I'll be out of this house away from the pond destroying mongrel which has struck again possibly killing the Thalia dealbata that I purchased on eBay this year.

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.
