I am so heart broken. I knew this was coming, as he was put on Hospice just 2 days before. So awful to watch as he struggled to breathe :'( He is at peace now. A huge part of my days with him are gone. At graveside he had the military honors, and firing of the three volleys . They folded his flag ever so gently,then one of them came to me I can't remember his words, he stepped closer, handed me my Fathers Flag, then the salute. I am grateful to have had these years with my Dad,( He did not know me for the last 6 years as he had Alzheimer's disease. One of the many terrible, mind robbing disease's one can have. Both the computer and phone crashed the same night, so this is first time I could post. I apologize for rambling, Thank You for Listening.

Oh Tootsie, I am so sorry. :'( My mom had Alzheimers and I think in there somewhere she knew me....I understand what you mean about it being mind robbing.

What a wonderful tribute to your father with the military honors. I received my dad's flag also at his funeral and was completely undone when the captain of the firefighters handed me his flag and saluted me. I know you will look back on it with warm memories and know that your dad was proud the way you honored him. Hoping you find peace and solace in the difficult days to come. Be gentle with yourself, grief is sneaky and gets you in the most inopportune times.

Losing parents is really hard mine are both gone but I know someday we will be together again!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Both my mother-in-law and my mother have Alzheimer's and it is truly a cruel disease. My prayers are with you.

Awww, sorry Tootsie. His and your suffering is done. Well your suffering takes a different tack I guess I should say. Glad you have good memories of better times.

So, so sorry Tootsie. There is so much sadness in your post. I'm sure, with time, you can replace the sadness with wonderful, warm memories.
I was with my mother-in-law when she passed away. She had Alzheimers too. It's a hard thing to watch.

Bless you Tootsie. You dad is at peace now, be assured. My dad died in 2009 and had the military honors too. In time you will be better. Just cry and let your grief out. I got really sick when dad died don't let that happen to you.

Oh Tootsie, so sorry to hear, no you are not rambling, it helps to talk about these things... I find Military funnerals even more sad then normal ones, have been to quite a few. Hope the good memories will get you through the coming days {{{{Hugs}}}}

i'm sorry for you it's very difficult to go through . your post made me think of my dad ,he died in 1954 . this left me going ''WOW!! that is a long time back'' . now i feel old . . . .peace
