After driving to Pasadena to have lunch and visit with MikeW, Jerry and his lovely wife Elaine, the Fetching One and I wandered over to the nearby Huntington Botanical Gardens.  I spent most of this visit in the cactus garden while the Fetching One wandered the bookstore.  She hates lizards (calls them beasts) and refuses to enter the desert garden when it’s warm and the “beasts” are out and about…..

Those are some GREAT cacti photos!  They look 'other-worldly' and could be growing on another planet:  they are so totally foreign to this part of the country!  I would bet you would have to wear some sturdy shoes in case there is a 'stray' sticker on the path!

That's funny about your wife and the lizards--I've never really been around them to know if I like them or not.  But if they jump on you or something, I'm sure I'd be in her catagory and relegate myself to the bookstore too!   ;)

The one with the tree-like flower spike is stupendous!  I had no idea there was anything like that.  Very cool.

That flowering agave is also a favorite of orioles and several other birds.  Apparently it is rich in nectar.
