cloudy water
« on: August 12, 2010, 07:38:40 AM »
Help!
My water has always been crystal clear and two days ago it started to get cloudy
I have bio filter and have cleaned the filters in skimmer

It has been really hot here for a week or so maybe that is problem?
I add water not too much to it but  I have been doing that and never changed anything
I tested the Ph 7.8 ammonia is 0 and nitrate 0
What should I use to clear it up any suggestions?
Thanks Donna

We've been having the same problem here for a few weeks this summer.  The water got nice and clear earlier in the summer, but with the extremely hot temperatures all summer long we have solid pea soup once again!  My husband cleans the filters almost every day, and he even bought 2 new UV bulbs thinking that might be the problem.  A very expensive attempt to fix the problem that only helped for 2 days before it got all dense looking again.

I will be looking for answers here as well.

Hello there Donna. What kind of cloudy is it? Particulate, clay, algea or brown?

Reddad is right about knowing what kind of cloudy water you are experiencing.  Could be your water is too warm and causing an algae bloom or killing the algae.  Do you have full sun on your pond?  Maybe you need heat relief with some shade.  My koi pond is in full sun and I have a large umbrella shading it in the summer only to keep the water clear and cool.

My hubby says particulate The heat wave has broken so time will tell if that is the cause!
