I have a 12 hour flight to look forward to.
« on: August 13, 2010, 11:38:17 AM »
I am seeking to upgrade the seat to business class. It is "economy" now! Yikes.
I sleep well in a chair so maybe I can handle it.
So far they want 6,000 to 7,000 bucks to do it!  14,000 round trip? No way. It is peak season.
It is via Lufthansa..
I am waiting for an answer  about extending my visit in Sweden,  I will be glad tp pay for that!

I hate to be there and never see anything.
The producer said they loved me in Norway @O@
I go Wed. eve at 9:05

The audition film was seen by the sponsors.  It is for the Norway market.
Why they pay to fly 8 or 9 actors over is beyond me.
When i say they loved me I mean that they chose me from the video.  it was a cattle call !

Have a wonderful time over there. I hope you can work out the extra days, it seems a shame to go that far and not spend some time exploring. Good luck with the upgrade, it sure would make for a more comfortable trip.

The longer stay will work. It is through the production companies Swedish Travel Agent.
The better seat won't.  Business class now at peak season is $6.000 to $7,000  No way!

My wife still won't go.  I can buy her a ticket out of LAX fr a bit more than 1,000.
Lufthansa to Munich then 2 hours to Stockholm.  Stockholm to LA non stop.
There are 7 of us going.  The old lady who played my wife in the audition was picked as well.
I guess we fit nicely.  Her daughter called me to tell me what I already realized.  She has serious mental lapses.  She wants me to watch out for her.  I will, of course but, will have my hands full watching out for myself!  NOT a seasoned traveler here!

From the actors site I use I have learned that I beat out scores of actors. I wasn't that good.

Sounds like you will have a grand time, Jerry!

I'm very experienced (unfortunately) on long flights (14hrs non stop) and you need to prepare to feel fine when you get to the other end.  Drink lots of water the day before the flight, very important! Get an aisle seat if possible and take lots of walks or chat with the flight attendants by the prep area (also where the toilets are located).  I like to bring a carry on that I can fit under the seat ahead of me to prop my feet/legs up on so the back of my legs don't feel cramped (there is no such thing as a comfortable seat unless you do business or better).

Be prepared to have fun, fun, fun!

similar advice from DR,  he said not to sleep more than 2 hours at a time.  Move around!
Even ace bandages for legs.
Wife will NOT go.  I really want her too. :'(
She says she would on a more planned trip.  She does noot want to wait around for me.

A lot is vague. Since they are all female I get my own room. I would think.
Pick up at airport is up in the air still. As is hotel.

That is a possibility, I have a coffee mug for Mike that I can show you and we can further discuss ideas along that line.
We can discuss more details via email.

Congratulations Jerry on getting this opportunity.
Don't say you weren't that good...........you were, or they wouldn't have picked you.

Like I've always said, some day I'll be sitting in the movie theater, with my bag of popcorn,......watching YOU!!!
That day is getting closer.

Take care of yourself on that long trip..........you shouldn't be burdened with watching out for that other lady too.

Karen

I GOT THIS from an actor on a different site,  Great info for all of Hey Jerry, congrats on the gig!

Advice from a million mile flyer...

Wear compression socks (aka Flight Socks). Dr. Scholls makes them. Continue to wear them for a few hours after landing until your body adjusts.

Bring a small flat pillow, a curved neck pillow, and eyeshades. (I would say earplugs but you can just dial down!)

Eat light before and during the flight, hydrate well, and avoid carbonated beverages.

Avoid sedatives, but do try to sleep on the plane if you can. When you arrive, get on the sleep schedule of that timezone. Maybe one small nap the first day, but the quicker you put yourself in the local timezone, the less jetlag you'll ultimately have.

Lufthansa is a good airline, very efficient. They're 100% partners with United Air Lines. If you have a United Mileage Plus account (and if you don't, then get one!), be sure to put your MP number on your itinerary so you can use the miles here on UA.

Be super nice when checking in and at the gate. Random free upgrades DO happen.

Can't wait to hear all about it!us.

The jet lag is a killer. Its really hard to get your body regulated. I left the US at night, flew 8.5 hours to Dublin arriving in the morning there. I couldn't sleep on the plane, I was too cold. All I wanted to do when I got checked into the hotel was go to bed but my travel companions told me I had to stay up. By that evening when we were in a pup eating dinner and listening to the live music I was pretty much catatonic and I remember very little of that first day there. ::) The next day was a bit rough too but after that I did fine. Coming back home it was easier to handle.
Hope you have a great trip, it sounds fun. :)

For me, the worst thing about flying coach on long distances is the lack of exercise which makes seat selection important if you can get it.  The best seating in coach in my opinion is in the first row behind 1st class.  This will typically be behind the bulkhead and you will have more leg room.  Some airlines will not allow you to select bulkhead seating until the day of the flight.  I also encourage an isle seat.  People needing to get to the potty will give you an excuse to stand up and stretch.  And anytime you want to go on a walk-about you don't have to disturb other passengers.  Emergency exit rows also offer more leg room.  I suggest avoiding isle seats near restrooms because it is common for people will be standing right next to you while in line waiting to use the restroom.  Enjoy Sweden!

Jerry, have a fun trip.  I fly long distance (international) quite a bit.  Make sure you wear very comfy shoes.  My feet always swell up when flying long distance.  If you take them off in the flight you will want to be able to slip them back on when you arrive at your destination.  The compression socks will help with the swelling.  Do walk lots in the plane to help with blood circulation.  O0 {:-P;;

Have fun and take some good pics.  You will do great in the audition.   O0

The audition is done. That's how i got the gig.  I will do my best on the shoot.(of course)
They will even dress us!  I will take the clothes I wore on the audition, just in case.

I didn't really do badly on the audition, just stumbled on my lines.  They had me do it over.
I am told that means they like you.  otherwise they just say "nice and thank you!"
