We're toying with the idea of getting a GPS. I have an old car and my new phone costs $10 a month to have it hooked up.  Any comments about other choices?

We are very pleased with our Garmin Nuvi.  Spend the few extra bucks and get the model that states what street to turn on.  My son has a Magellan and he likes it.

I have a Garmin Nuvi too and I love it.  Mine is about 3 years old and when I used it on our recent trip to the East Coast we drove a lot of "unpaved roads."  There were new roads replacing old highways and the machine kept trying to get us back to the old road until we used the detour button or silenced it.

If you travel a lot and have web on your phone it may be well worth the extra $ for the phone app.  I know a few peeps who do this and they thinks it's just one less thing to play with.  All you need to do is go online to Google maps and it will guide you.

We just got home from a trip to Canada with "Elizabeth", our Garmin Nuvi.  She has a British accent, so we named her after the Queen.  lol   She makes the trip so much more enjoyable, no worries.  You gotta have one!

I have GPS on my cell phone and like it very much. The nice part of having it on your cell is it is always with you. The down side is it eats up battries when the GPS is on.

I absolutely love my Garmin Nuvi!  I travel frequently by myself and used to experience a lot of anxiety if I got turned around late at night in a place I'd never been.  No longer a problem - mine is named Shirley because she's always so sure of where she's going...  When I fly someplace and rent a car, she comes with me in my laptop carry-on bag and is the first thing out of the bag the moment I pick up the car.  Never getting lost anymore=no anxiety.

I just happened to think that we hardly ever go anywhere so wonder why I want a GPS. Maybe I'll call and see if I can get service on my phone for just a month or so if we were going to take a trip.

Esther, we have the Garmin Nuvi as well and love it. Pete was given a Tomtom as well. Both work fine but the Garmin is much easier to program etc so the Garmin is in my car and the Tomtom is in Pete's.

Our neighbor is 75 and said they had trouble with the TomTom so switched to the Garmin and liked it better. But I suppose there are negatives and positives in most stuff.

A GPS is relatively inexpensive compared to the phone service if you do not travel too much.  Plus in areas that don't change streets/routes often a GPS works great.

OK, never thought of charges for time spent using the GPS. Thought the $10 a month covered everything. Guess I'd better find out.
